| Hello. It is 4:14 AM. I'm still awake, and so I decided "What the duck? Let's start a book list on Roleplex!" I say this because I am up at 4:14 AM because I was, incidentally, reading a book; quite a good one at that. Reading is how you become a good writer, and it can open you to new fantastical experiences that you've never felt before. Basically, this thread will be a list of books, compiled by everyone on the forum. This will, in a nutshell, consist of the best books we've ever read and why they are so.
As always in Forumland, I must layeth down the law and post some rules.
1. No trolling, spamming, or arguing in this thread. I suppose you can debate different literature, but don't get in a flame war or I'll pull down my banstinguisher, and nobody likes that.
2. only novels, please. Nonfiction books are okay, but I don't want you putting picture books here.
3. Please take this thread seriously. Don't put down some crappy book as a joke or something.
4. If you post any book with "50 shades" in the title, you are instantly banned until June 22nd of the year 3290.
I know you all have the intelligence to write this on your own, but for the helluva it, I'm putting a sheet here. Use it if you want.
Title: Author: Approximate number of pages: summary: why you like it:
So yeah, I guess that's it. Let's get readin', shall we?

| Books"I cannot live without books" -Thomas Jefferson Title: Paper Towns Author: John Green # of pages: 305 Summary: I've read a ton of books. Like, literally, I basically have my own library in my room, and Paper Towns by John Green may actually be my favorite book out of all of them. The book is about Quentin Jacobsen, a senior in high school who one night is pulled out of bed by Margo Roth Spiegelman, that adventurous, dashing, beautiful girl of every high schooler's dreams, who pulls him on an all-night bombing run to rain down revenge on her enemies. Then, she disappears. However, Margo Roth Spiegleman is good at disappearing, very good, and so she leaves some "Bread crumbs"; clues to where she's hiding; clues that only Quentin Jacobsen would be able to find. The rest of the book is all the mystery of how Quentin and his gang of friends hunt down Margo through her trail of clues. Why I liked it: John Green is a literary king. Like, if God had one man who he made the God of non-fantasy fiction, it would be John Green. The reason I loved Paper Towns so much is that it's real. On TV and in books, people always are too nice about how high school really is; there's no cursing, no real structure -they make if off as some kind of Hollywood hierarchy. John Green's pook is real. In real life, there are no jocks and queen bees and nerds and geeks and AV club guys; there's the haves and the have-nots, and they really aren't true groups. The language is real (and stinking hilarious) and the thoughts and dialogue are what I'd really say to my buddies in school. The language is probably what I love most about Paper Towns, and I could sit here writing a 500 word essay about it, but it's 4:43 AM, and I need to sleep or today at 2 PM I'm going to drop over half-dead.

| Title: Warriors (the whole series) Author: Erin Hunter # of pages: I'm not going to add all the pages of every Warriors book together. There's around 20 books. Summary: Alright, I'll admit that I am more into stuff like Percy Jackson. At first I thought I'd hate Warriors. In fact, the only reason I started reading the series is because of everybody talking about it a few years back and a lot of people who have read it pressuring me to read it. So, I opened up the second book in the series (the library did not have Into The Wild, the first book. DAMNIT!) and I read it. So yeah, enough of some background info. The first series (Warriors) is about Rusty, who is a kitty-pet (or was). From what I've read about the first book, he decides to jump his Twoleg-place's (or house's) fence and go into the forest. There, he finds ThunderClan, one of the four Clans (ThunderClan, ShadowClan, RiverClan and WindClan, although in the book Firestar's Quest it is revealed there were five clans (the fifth being SkyClan which had to move due to Twolegs chopping down some forest to make a town). Anyways, Rusty wants to join ThunderClan and is accepted into it, but not exactly welcomed as he is called names and insulted (the most common one is 'Once a kittypet, always a kittypet!'. He gets his apprentice name Firepaw, attends a big battle, and becomes a warrior (a rank in clan society) and gains his warrior name Fireheart. Eventually he becomes Deputy of the clan, and after a while, becomes the leader of the clan, and becomes Firestar. That's as far as I've gotten. Also, sorry for the long summary, I felt I had to give as much information on the first book as I could due to the fact it wasn't in my library and it might not be available at yours.
Why I liked it: Erin Hunter... is officially the best writer ever. Alright, I opened up the second book with an absolutely negative mind. I seriously doubted the book would be THAT good. Turns out, I was wrong. Erin managed to write one of the best book series-es ever and none of her books in the series was bad. She also managed to make it so cat-fights seemed so... EPIC. Look, I can't explain why I liked the book using words. You just NEED to read this if you haven't read it yet. It's just... beyond awesome. Beyond epic. Beyond any word that could describe the epic-ness that is... Warriors. | |
