Are you joking? The classics are terrible! Their lava was literally red foam. Matt Smith is by far the best Doctor Ever. Having the doctor be an old curmudgeon was terrible. Now the Doctor actually has fun. Matt Smith is perfect for the role; he can be serious and silly at the same time. The old series had terrible acting, worse special effects, and wasn't that fun.
There is so much more to the show than special effects, such as the plot and acting and the overarching storyline in general, that's pretty shallow of you to judge a show based on its special effects. I'd still go back and watch Star Trek despite its poor special effects.

The Doctor now is much more fun to watch. He's goofy and fun and crazy like you'd imagine a thousand-year-old time traveller to be.
Actually, I'd expect that from a child. I'd expect a thousand year old genius time traveler who is fresh right out of a war that wiped out his entire species to be wise and bitter. I wouldn't frolic like a ten year old - after thousands of years of learning of all the things I can throughout the universe's history, I'd wonder what else there'd be, yeah. I wouldn't behave childishly though, especially after a devastating war. The ninth doctor, Eccleson, had it right - he was an extraordinary genius and he, despite his outer charm, was a bitter fellow and he absolutely hated the Daleks. He tortured them out of rage, he threatened to drive them to extinction, and he was actually capable of doing so. The 11th Doctor doesn't seem to be as intelligent or witty as the previous Doctors, and most of his brilliant moments, it seems, are out of luck.
Your arguments against classic who seems to be out of pure disregard for their actual plots and story-arcs, and consist of mostly FX bashing and actor smashing - which, you've already admitted to, not watching most of the classic episodes, so there's no way you could know that classic Who's acting is bad. It's obtuse bigotry.
In the end, I don't exactly favor classic Who over new Who, they're both great, and I don't hate any of the actors. I think Moffat made it a bit too kid friendly with Matt Smith floundering about acting like a cat doped up on catnip (in a way, Rory and Amy really did end up raising a child after all: the 11th Doctor). But I don't really hate him. The new episodes are still amusing, somewhat witty, and it still gives me what I'm looking for in Doctor Who, but I would have to say that my favorite Doctor is Christopher Eccleson.

I've never watched Doctor Who. I've heard it's really good, but I just...haven't...ever...sat down to watch it....
I probably should. Seems like something I'd like.
But just from what I know from my Whovian friends....
Personally I think having a funny, eccentric character is perfect for a show. And for surviving a devastating war, heh. I think it's kind of amazing that the main character can still show charm and humor after going through a traumatizing event. It shows...recovery.
I dunno.
It's a lot harder to forget things and move on than it is to exact vengeance.

I've watched some of the classics. It was actually painful to watch. The acting on part of the companions was fricking terrible. "Oh no! A Dalek!" *Swoon*. True, I haven't seen many of them, but the ones I have seen were insults to television. Perhaps I went a little overboard about the FX, but if you have a tv show where the Daleks kill people with flashlights and just fall over without any damage at all when they die, it's going to be rather corny. Matt Smith can be angry and bitter too when he wants to be (for example, in What Lies Beneath, when he has to kill the Star Whale), but I see the Doctor as a kind of mad genius, like how I guess Leonardo da Vinci acted at times. Kiddish, yes, but absolutely brilliant. On the subject of science and intelligence, I admitted earlier that he does get very lucky and doesn't seem as scientific. Matt smith is more "Let's point the sonic screwdriver at the bad guy and see what happens!" which I don't like, but besides that, I think the new ones are much better.

You know what this whole "Classic Doctor Who vs. New Doctor Who" debate is? A first world problem.
Now I really ought to stop procrastinating... >.>
