PostSubject: A Dog's Life (OOC)   A Dog's Life (OOC) EmptyWed Jan 02, 2013 5:49 pm

A Dog’s Life

In the world, there are estimated to be over four hundred million domestic dogs. These dogs, all descended from the Gray Wolf, are incredibly diverse, born to serve the human race for a variety of purposes, whether it be hunting, guarding, or simply being there to keep their master company. However, the dogs, as a result of domestication, also developed a powerful ability. These dogs were capable of communicating to any canine in existence, an adaptation that arose as the different breeds emerged. Humans, however, remained completely unaware; as it is natural for domestic dogs to communicate with one another, and nobody alone has witnessed one speak with a wild relative.

Another truth, that the humans have failed to understand, is that their four-legged companions are far smarter than they thought, and that if it were not for their lack of opposable thumbs, they would have also developed a great civilization. For centuries, the domestic dogs have effortlessly fooled the humans into thinking they are simply lovable animals. Dogs grow to love their humans, however, but much of their love is because humans are so strange, in their eyes. Both races are fascinated by each other, and as such, both stay together, trying to understand one another.

However, what the dogs did not know was that they were also the only ones standing between the humans and a greater threat. Deep within a hidden fault line between Mississippi and Arkansas, a small tremor occurred. This was barely noticeable, and nobody saw any reason to worry. But they should have been, because the small rumble released something, something which had been trapped deep within the earth for thousands of years.

Now, the Dire Wolf, a dangerous predator previously thought to be extinct, has evolved deep within the ground. It has grown larger, up to three-times the size of a normal wolf, it’s already large teeth becoming like butcher knives. Adapting to the darkness of the caves, their eyes have turned an unnatural radioactive green, with elliptical pupils, arming them with powerful night vision. Their claws have become long and sharp, and years of preying solely on other carnivores have made this species vicious in every way.

The Dire Wolf has escaped from the earth into the surface world, the ultimate predator, capable of hunting down humans and destroying them before anyone can notice. As they begin to hunt, the humans still remain unaware. Only the dogs know something is wrong. Only the dogs are capable of fighting them.

Only the dogs can save humanity.

Welcome to A Dog’s Life, where dogs are the only thing standing between humans, and a terrible threat.

Before you join, there are a few rules I must go over first.

Rules

1. No Godmodding, Metagaming, or Autoing.

2. No Profanity or Crude Language

3. Romance is permitted, and dogs can mate and have puppies, but the process of mating and other sexual topics are not permitted.

4. No wild animals, all submitted characters must be real domestic dog breeds. I will research this.

5. Be realistic, do not make dogs with super strength or supernatural abilities.

6. Mixed Breeds and Mutt dogs must have their breeds listed.

7. No dog will be aware of the threat at the beginning of its involvement in the story.

8. Dogs must fit their breed description, No albino golden retrievers!

9. If you read these rules, put "Tails" in the 'Other' section of your sheet.

Now for the sheet!

Accepted Character Sheets

ViperaUnion

Name: Cynthia
Gender: Female
Breed: Standard Poodle
Age (Human Years): 3
Age (Dog Years): 21
Size Category: Large
Weight: 60 lbs.

Appearance: Cynthia in appearance is a very beautiful Standard Poodle. Embodying most of the traits that are considered desirable in her breed, she is a very square dog, her height equaling her length exactly. She has floppy ears, and a straight muzzle, which appears to be somewhat longer than most poodles, and is thus considered more appealing in her appearance. She is also very lean compared to others of her breed, due to being athletic. Her nose, lips, and the tiny rings around her almond-shaped eyes are a solid black. Her eyes are a dark brown color. Her teeth are very white, although the molars further back are slightly brown and stained. Her fur is remarkable soft and curly, and her color, which is considered blue by human standards, is a beautiful silver. The fur all over her body is medium length, and cut evenly, and her tail, which has been docked to half its length, has a fluffy ball on the end of it. She has more fur on top of her head and on her ears, which is combed straight and puffy. The fur on her face and paws has been cut very closely, so that it looks like velvet. On the very tip of her nose she has a tiny pink scar from when she was a puppy, and burnt her nose trying to sniff a candle. She wears a brown flower tooled leather dog collar, with a square gold plate showing her name, her owner’s address, and phone number. On another part of her collar she has her tags showing she has all her shots, although a few of them are dented, due to being chewed.

Personality: Cynthia is a very sweet dog, being good with humans of all ages, especially children. Most of the time, she is very relaxed, whether she is laying down on an old armchair that her owner permits her to sit on, or simply being outside, absorbing the sun’s rays. However, at other times, she is incredibly hyper, jumping around and running about in a frenzy, with seemingly limitless energy. Cynthia does not know how to play fetch, but has been taught how to play tetherball by her owners, as well as tug-o-war. When she goes on walks, she is very strong, and as such, is forced to walk with a choker chain, which digs into her neck when she tugs too hard on the leash. She knows many tricks, such as sit, stay, lie down, shake, and even play dead. She can also to a degree understand what her humans are doing on a different level, such as distinguishing fake fighting from real fighting, and when they are playing with her or scolding. Cynthia may also watch TV, and has developed a habit of barking at any other animals that might appear, especially other dogs, and cats, which she has a tendency to chase. When playing with other dogs, Cynthia is very rough, seemingly unaware of her own strength, and prefers to play a game of tag, initiating a chase by nipping another dog, although the ‘nip’ may sometimes be much stronger than intended, and hurt them. She may also play fight, which is also very rough. Much of her excessive force when playing games is due to her playing with Pitt Bulls while growing up as a puppy. When in a fight, Cynthia is incredibly good, running around the opposing dog and nipping at the ears and tail. She is a fast runner, and loves to swim.

History: Cynthia was born in a litter of pure bred standard poodle puppies, to a silver mom and a white dad. Her grandfather, from her mother’s side, was a grand champion dog show winner, and as a result, Cynthia was a very expensive puppy due to her pedigree. However, her owners were planning on getting her as a pet, not for dog shows, and thus did not also pay for papers, although they still tell people about her lineage. Once they took her home, Cynthia experienced several new things, such as seeing snow for the first time, and also the first candle she had ever witnessed, although it was ruined when she tried to sniff the flame, and burned the tip of her nose. Many years passed, Cynthia growing up playing with the Pitt Bulls who lived next door, and learning to play roughly, along with chasing cats. Now, her owners have taken her to visit relatives in Georgia, in a location in the middle of nowhere, at a house surrounded by a thousand acres of land.

Other: Tail

Name: Ruth
Gender: Female
Breed: Bloodhound
Age (Human Years): 8
Age (Dog Years): 56
Size Category: Large
Weight: 101 lbs.

Appearance: Ruth is a large, elderly bloodhound, who, despite being a lean figure, weighs a large amount, due to having naturally dense bones. Her most notable features are her long, droopy ears, large black nose, and wrinkly face. Her eyes are shaped in such a way that makes her look sad or worried, although it is only caused by the wrinkles on her forehead. Her eyes are a warm brown color, and her teeth are very white, due to her habit of chewing on bones. Her fur colors are a liver-and tan saddle type, meaning most of her fur is a reddish color, but she has a large dark red-black coloration on her back. The tips of her ears and nose are also faintly darker than the rest of her fur. She also has a few white hairs mixed in, due to age. Ruth still has very good eyesight for a bloodhound, and her bay is still incredibly loud and strong. Her sense of smell has also not dulled in the least. However, she has gone slightly deaf, and people must speak loudly for her to hear them, and her left hind leg is slightly stiff from arthritis.

Personality: Ruth is a very gentle and even-tempered dog, who when she was younger assisted her owner in hunting down deer and wild boars. She still retains her vision, sense of smell, and powerful bay, but age has caused her left leg to go slightly stiff with arthritis, and her hearing is poor. As a result, she may make mistakes when listening to others speaking, or fail to hear them at all. This has led other dogs on occasion to believe she is senile, although she is still incredibly smart, albeit stubborn if she smells something and wishes to investigate. She spends much of her time on the back porch of her owner’s house, or wandering around the large backyard, waiting for her owner to call upon her abilities once more. However, this does not happen anymore, as her owner has retired her from hunting, and now hunts with a friend and his younger bluetick coon hound, Ty, whom Ruth has developed a slight dislike for, because her owner is often out hunting, and no longer spends time with her.

History: Ruth has spent much of her life serving as a hunting companion to her owner, employing her excellent sense of smell to track large game such as deer or wild hogs. She was very good at her job, and never lost a scent, finding her quarry every single time, leading her owner to praise her greatly. However, after a few years passed, and Ruth got older, her owner began to worry. Ruth had begun to develop arthritis in her left hind leg, and although her other senses remained as sharp as ever, she seemed to be losing her hearing. Often, he would become concerned about her leg and try to call her back, and she would not hear him, and instead continue to go after a scent, until he called loud enough for her to hear. Eventually, he retired her from hunting, and began to hunt with a friend, who had recently gotten a young bluetick coon hound of his own, whom he named Ty. Although Ty was a nice young dog, and was usually respectful to Ruth, he was often uncomfortable around her, and thought she was senile when she misunderstood his words. As a result, Ruth has developed a slight dislike for him; she’s hard of hearing, not stupid, and often wonders if he is talking about her behind his back to the other young dogs that wander around. Despite all of this, however, Ruth is just a very lonely old dog, apparently no longer of any use to her owner, and her attention is often neglected. She just wishes she could hunt and track game again, so that she could show she wasn’t useless.

Other: Tail

Name: Shay
Gender: Male
Breed: Kangal Dog
Age (Human Years): 8
Age (Dog Years): 56
Size Category: Large
Weight: 145 lbs.

Appearance: Shay in appearance is a very large dog, even in comparison to several other breeds of mastiff. He stands at about 32 inches at the shoulder (2.6 ft), and due to his breed, weighs less than most dogs his size, and can run up to 30 mi/hr. as a result. He has powerful legs, and a heavily built upper body, with a thick scruff and a face that in shape is similar to a golden retriever’s, his ears being half-folded, but cropped. His coat is short and dense, and is not long or feathery. His pelt is a pale fawn color, almost white, and he has black facial mask on his snout, and darkened fur on his ears. His tail is long and curled over his back, although it tends to uncurl when he is sitting down or lying down. His coat is thick and insulating, and keeps him safe in either freezing cold or blazing heat. It also repels water and snow. His coat itself is so dense, in fact, that it can prevent rupture from wolf bites, making him excellent at the job meant for his breed. His eyes are a dark shade of brown. His teeth are pure white, due to his diet not consisting of foods that can stain them. He wears a black collar with a single row of silver spikes, with his name printed on a silver nameplate. His tags, however, are so badly dented one can hardly read them.

Personality: Shay is a very gentle and loyal dog at first glance, even though he is old and may sometimes not appeal as much to the younger canines. He is very good with humans of all ages, especially children, and he can also be trusted with very young creatures, even newborn goats. However, he is not entirely a gentle giant. Being a guardian dog, his job to protect a herd of goats from wild animals like bears and wolves, he is incredibly protective of his family, friends, and charge. He is incredibly fierce in combat, and can handle injuries most other dogs could not. He can also, on occasion, scare off animals smaller than him, like foxes or wolves, with pure intimidation alone, although he isn’t afraid to fight if they aren’t scared. He traditionally guards like a sentry, watching from a high point and surveying his flock. He is able to do this, regardless of weather, as his fur is waterproof, and insulates against temperatures. In addition to being a fast runner, he is experienced in battle. Despite being old, Shay is a formidable and balanced warrior in every aspect, every ounce a knight in shining armor.

History: Shay was gotten by his owner, a goatherd, when there was an issue of bears and wolves stealing goats and eating them. Although as a puppy, he was too small to do much, Shay instantly bonded to his owner, and at the age of two, was already guarding a small herd of goats. Eventually, after fending off a single lone wolf, his owner gave the dog the entire herd to look after, which he has protected ever since. Even though he is old, Shay has not had any health problems, or true signs of old age, although he can be considered to sound old to other dogs. As such, he still battles ferocious wild animals, none of which have managed to take a goat from him.

Well, I have a standard poodle, which is basically a gender-swapped version of my own dog, and a Bloodhound who's upset that a younger hound doesn't listen to her. A lot of the RP will begin in Georgia, in the middle of nowhere.

And yes, there's a lot of variations in certain dog breeds. Your chosen dog can be either long hair or short hair, height isn't really easy to distinguish because it varies, and marking colors are a lot of variety.

Sometimes you lose your work on a laptop because it'll highlight stuff or whatever and then delete it without your say-so. I tend to save mine on word repeatedly, because that seems to be the only way to prevent it.

Name: Officer Crumpet

Gender: Male

Breed: Welsh Corgi

Age (Human Years): 9

Age (Dog Years): 63

Size Category: small

Weight: 30 pounds

Appearance: Officer Crumpet is that cute widdle doggie that you don't want to mess with. He is short, like most Corgis, only being about 12 inches tall and 16 inches long. He is an old Corgi, and his appearance shows it. His fur is a light blonde with patches of grey. He has almost what looks like a grey mustache on his lip, and his black eyes seem to have lost their sparkle. He wears a collar that is decorated like a Union jack, with his name on it. He speaks in a deep British accent.

Personality: Officer Crumpet is an old, wise dog. He is a former British Crime dog, and has the personality of one. He has a head hard as a rock, along with a very British sense of humor, making him herd to beat in an argument. He has a strong sense of justice, and likes to take things into his own hands. He is relatively grouchy, being an older dog, and doesn't make friends easily.

History: Crumpet was born in England to an owner who was a Police officer. The entire time he was a puppy, Crumpet's master was never around, as he was always on the job; fighting crime, chasing speeders, working late hours on court cases. Crumpet felt like his master didn't love him as much because he wasn't in the police. So, he changed that. Crumpet crawled into his master's car's trunk and went to work with his owner. His owner had no idea that his dog was in the trunk all day, until he reported to an armed robbery. He had the culprit pinned down against the car when he [the culprit] pulled a knife and stabbed Crumpet's owner in the gut. Crumpet, hearing his master's cry, crawled out of the trunk through a compartment in the back seats, and attacked the robber through an opened window, taking him down and holding him there by the throat. The Police were so impressed that they sent Crumpet to police dog training, and he helped his master fight crime for years, until they both retired and moved to America.
