If Xena's face were exposed she'd be wearing a look of complete calm. Spiderweb is tougher than steel and her particular gas mask model is bullet proof. However, she wasn't cocky and didn't care to fight. She walked back to where she kicked the scorpions singer and picked it up. "We came for this, nothing more." No mention of lowering their weapons, they didn't want a fight and would lower them soon enough. The wasp was no concern of hers, if it stung Miranda it'd just be a harsh lesson. She'd had plenty herself. Of course it might end in her death, but so far they had done nothing but point a gun at her. In Xena's mind that wasn't the appropriate response for her helping them out. Lance saw the benefit in pointing it out and warned them. Hmmm the boy recognized him, proves that my gut was right. She said nothing and waited for Lance to do the talking, she'd butt in once she recognized where she'd seen the boy.

And so the great reptile led the girl, taking her back to the place he called home, the part of it's territory it valued over all the other pieces of land it patrolled. It's body, despite being so large, moved with a grace that would be uncharacteristic to some. As they arrived at the gas station, the reptile froze again. A deep rumble emanated from it's body. It smelt the air and growled. There was an unwelcome guest in it's territory. It did not like unwelcome guests. It's body posture suddenly changed. It went from being relatively calm to aggressive.

It moved quickly, scouring the outer area and attempting to sniff out any intruders. It exhibited it's powerful physic by getting on two legs and lumping like a bird to the room to check around the store. As it did so, it's reptilian mind began checking things off of it's 'where-could-the-intruder-hide checklist when it finally got to the last one-inside. It jumped from the roof and wheel around to face the door. It looked intently through the glass and searched for the intruder, which it found rather quickly. It snarled, the sound vibrating through the glas with ease. It was mad, and the glass between the two would not hold it back.

--------------------

The massive man looked to the girl intently, staring at her with a soulless gaze. He slowly looked down to the girl's hand as it went for her dagger. He watched it for a moment, before deciding that it wouldnt pose much of a threat to him, at least not one worth worrying about. He looked at he for a moment, before reaching forward to touch her on the shoulder. The pads of his hands were rough and calloused. The palms held many scars and a few small open cuts could be seen here and there on his arms and exposed torso. His mask was not a gas mask, just a mask, but it had worked so far. It stared into her eyes through her mask, unblinking. The mask creating an eerie gaze.

The man retracted his hand and slowly shook his head, declining what the girl had asked. He was not here to kill her. "Follow." he said, motioning for the girl to follow him. His voice was very deep and scratchy, most likely caused from not using it often. Although his ability to speak when needed surprised him, especially after not using it in so long. Life was full of surprises he supposed. Not all were giant insects waiting around the corner to kill you.

Lance looked back at Edgar, his expression hardening. "I don't think we have met" Inside his head, he admitted that the other did seem familiar but he couldn't place from where. For someone who had just been given some help, they seemed to be pretty ungrateful. He considered putting a slug into the boy since his guard was down. It would only be appropriate.

Mouse simply watched as the reptile began to frantically look about the abandoned gas station, before growling at someone who had gotten inside through the glass. There appeared to be food present, but as much as people wanted to lay claim to having brought the most provisions back from the surface, it meant little to Mouse. More importantly, even seeing through a window, past a gigantic mutated reptile, she could tell by the arrangement of the food that it had been placed on purpose behind the desk. Someone had been keeping it here, and one thing Mouse knew that could guarantee dying on the surface was angering other people by stealing. Thoughts and pieces clicked together, as Mouse realized that the reptile must belong to someone, and it was angry because the person inside was not its master. It wasn't stupid, it was actually very intelligent, but something told Mouse she might want to stay out of its way, even though it had not shown any hostility towards her. If it wanted to punish the other scavenger, she would not be able to stop it, nor would she try. Mouse had been robbed by a thief, once, and they had taken all of her food, not even leaving enough for her to feed herself. It wasn't that she thought someone trying to survive deserved to die, but Mouse was not going to risk her own safety in this situation.

Mouse looked at the stranger, and immediately knew that this scavenger had never been to the surface before. He was extremely thin-looking, and rather pale, typical of anyone who lived hidden from the sun their entire life. His skin itself was not only pale, but not in the least marred by the tell-tale signs of a survivor from the surface world. She saw no scars, not even the scrape-like marks that would indicate being caught multiple times in dust storms. His face was plainly visible, dark brown eyes and hair swept off to one side. No, he did not have the look of someone who knew the desert, and as much as she felt a twinge of pity, Mouse forced herself to remain rooted to her spot. How she must look to him, with her cloaked form, the only visible skin that of her long, tapered fingers, the hands the shape of a woman's, but as rough and scarred as a man's. Her dark eyes peered out from pale skin that was riddled with deep scars, the rest of her face covered by her tagelmust, which also prevented her from breathing in the sand that blew about the air, and protected her from the sun. She folded her arms, but made no move to stop the reptile. She said nothing, waiting to see what would happen.

Serenity looked up at the man as he placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to tense up from the contact, not expecting such an action. She remained frozen, however, until the man removed his hand and shook his head, responding to her question. Serenity felt her shoulders relax.

Then the man asked her to follow him. His voice was hoarse, and she briefly wondered what had made it that way. Nevertheless, despite his eerie appearance and the fact that she didn't know him at all, Serenity followed the man, curious about where he was leading her. She slowly stood up, one hand fiddling with the red ribbon that kept her blonde hair in a braided, and nodded, her eyes, while still holding a sad presence to them, showing some hope. After all, if this man wanted to kill her he would have done so already. She kept her other hand gripping the dagger, not planning on using it but still feeling safer with the weapon.

Harrison turned around at the sound of growling. His eyes widened as he saw the huge reptile staring through the door. He backed away slowly at first, but then started to run. Reptiles were faster, smarter, and stronger than most of the arthropods. His survival chances were unlikely if it caught him. He quickly opened an ice storage unit, which was off, and closed the door. He was trapped in there, but at least he could put one more thing between him and the gigantic lizard. He sat in there, almost to tears. He would probably die.

Mouse shook her head, finally unable to sit still any longer. The reptile was angry, but it was unlikely to try to harm her if she went and got the scavenger herself. She wouldn't touch the food and supplies, though, that much was only the respectful thing to do, as the creature had brought her here on purpose. It hadn't intended for the boy to go inside without its approval. Whatever the reason, she might as well go get the stranger out of his hiding place. Why she was doing it, she wasn't so sure, but she wasn't going to stand there and watch any longer. She slowly walked up next to the reptile, looking up at it, and grabbing the handle to the door, moving slowly, and trying not to give the creature any reason to think she might betray its trust. It was smart, but that did not mean it wouldn't turn on her in an instant. It was reasonable, though, so there was a chance that with the boy not immediately in its sights, the reptile might let her in to go fetch him. He had been chased away from the food, now the only thing that could be done was for Mouse to investigate. The person who lived here wasn't present.

Mouse pushed open the door, and slid inside the small store, moving slowly towards the freezer section, and making a wide arc, so as to avoid getting close to the food. The reptile was clearly guarding it, so she wasn't going to get on its bad side, she wasn't going to risk getting herself killed. She walked up to the ice storage unit, and peered through the glass door at the boy inside, who looked as though he were about to cry. She felt a twinge of guilt, at this, she could have helped earlier, but regardless, what was done was done, and there was nothing she could change. She grabbed the handle of the unit and opened the glass door, removing the only barrier separating the two. "Come out, make no sudden movements." She said, keeping her raspy soprano clear and firm.

Harry swallowed and looked at the girl in front of him. She was close to his age, it seemed like. He did as she said, and slowly climbed out of the large box. Slowly and steadily. He immediately looked toward the large lizard at the door, it's tail swaying from side to side in an aggressive motion. He looked toward the girl and whispered," Who are you?"

Mouse blinked, her eyes betraying no expression, "Mouse," She said, keeping her answer as short as she possibly could. She folded her arms, "The reptile led me here, first-timer. You should not steal, the creature is guarding that food for someone." She said, a brief explanation, with as little elaboration as she could get away with. She was not going to answer a million questions, she hadn't intended to run into another scavenger, but somehow, she had. Now, she would simply get it across that she didn't want to help him any more than she had to. First-timers had heard things from survivors, but hearing something was not the same as experiencing them. Mouse was clearly a survivor, just as clearly as the boy was a first-timer. Stealing was a dangerous thing to do, and it was only reserved for the extremely desperate who had nothing left to lose but their lives. If you stole from the wrong person, you would likely get yourself killed. On the surface, you had to learn things quickly, or you would not live for very long. One mistake was a fatal thing, and Mouse had learned these things the hard way.

He heard her name, Mouse. "I see, so that thing has a master, or something? I mean, it's eye looks all patched up and stuff". He looked over at the reptile. "Name's Harrison", he said," but people call me Harry. About your name, Mouse? Do people just call you that or is that your actual name?"

Mouse, slowly tapped the fingers of her right hand on her sleeve, "I am Mouse, that is all you need to know." It was, of course, a nickname people had given her, based on her quiet, reclusive nature, and generally cautious attitude. She wasn't going to bother telling Harry her real name, because her real name wasn't nearly as interesting, nor did it fit her personality. She didn't want to give him a real name for him to call her by, he would either call her Mouse, or he wouldn't have any name to refer to her by at all. It should be obvious from her short responses that she didn't like to talk, but it wasn't uncommon for there to be people who simply lacked the intuition to notice. Mouse was never one for conversation, she tired of it rather quickly, and communicated more through actions and body language than words. She shifted slightly, her moccasins making almost no noise at all on the sleek flooring of the store, and slowly began to tap her left food. Why was talking always so uncomfortable? She could never get used to it.

"Okay, Mouse... How are we going to get out of here without being eaten by a humongous gecko?" He questioned. It wasn't in a rude tone, more like he was trying to figure it out himself. He looked around the store. He didn't know why the lizard didn't attack yet, that glass could easily be broken by it's powerful forelimbs. He looked at the food pile. That's why..., he thought to himself, It's guarding it's master's food stash.

He looked above him at a ventilation shaft. "Here, gimme a boost", he said to Mouse. Maybe they could crawl through that shaft and out the back side of the shop. However, the lizard could figure it out and be a huge setback.

Mouse blinked, and her eyes narrowed, the top of her nose wrinkling in an irritated expression, "You make the situation more complicated than it is." She said, a bit of the annoyance creeping into her tone. "The reptile brought me here, and did not once threaten me. It is capable of restraint, so it should not attack you if you do not touch the food, and keep away from it." She said. Mouse wasn't positive that if she tried, she could even lift Harry. She was strong, and had trained so that she would be swift, agile, and flexible, but that was not the same kind of training that allowed someone to lift heavy objects. She also heavily doubted that the air shaft could support a human's weight, much less that escaping the building through a different route would allow them to escape. The reptile was smart, it could probably find them with ease using its powerful senses. Mouse didn't intend to betray its trust, either.

She looked over at the window where the reptile was, "We could either leave and hope to gain its trust, or we can wait for its master to return. It would have brought me here for that reason. It is not worth the risk to try escaping." Mouse said.

"Alright then." He replied," I don't really want to approach it, so I think I'd prefer to just wait." He slowly sat down against the wall. "Well, I don't know how long this will take." He looked over at Mouse. "I owe you one. If you didn't go in and get me, I would be dead." He smiled. That was the first time in a long while that he smiled. His life was spared by the reptile, so I guess that was a reason to smile...

Mouse took a deep breath, and walked over to the end of one of the shelves that formed the aisles of the store. She then leaned against it, and then slowly sank down until she was sitting on the base of it, pulling her knees up so that they were tucked against her chest, and under her chin. She folded her arms so that they hung loosely around her legs, and then leaned her head against her right knee, closing her eyes. As long as they were safe, she might as well rest as nicely as she possibly could without drifting off. Resting never came easily to her, never after she had been chosen in the raffle two years ago. The fear that she would be attacked at any moment didn't leave, even when she was underground in Rattown. She might seem relaxed, but she never truly was, not when she always thought she was going to be harmed by some gigantic insect or arachnid. She had taught herself to rest in even an uncomfortable position, but even so, she found the flooring of the building uncomfortable. There was too much space in the room for comfort. She often found that she felt safer holed up in a small space.

He looked over at Mouse and bit his lip. He was afraid, and when he was afraid he talked. To himself or to anyone who was around. But he felt like Mouse was not the kind of person who enjoys conversation, so he thought to himself. But, he wanted to talk. He wanted to have someone to hear his thoughts. To share his fear...

The reptile's stance suddenly dropped, and it turned around and bounded off to meet an unknown source. What had just saved potentially both of their lives was shrouded in the sea of sand that covered the land in a coarse, tan cloak. Off in the distance a man with another girl following close behind raised his hand to meet the reptile's snout as it made it's way to meet them. The great lizard pressed it's snout into the man's palm and rumbled in satisfaction. It then noticed the other human. A girl, and an inexperienced one at that.

It was of no matter to it though. It barked in a way, trying to warn the man of the intruders in their home. The man, being very experienced with the reptile, began to run after it as it once again began running back to the gas station. He stopped, however, and looked back to the girl he had found who was following him. "Keep... Up." He said, before sprinting off after the desert dragon once again. He did not know what it was that was threatening their home, but he would fix it if it kept the giant he kept as a pet calm. An agitated lizard creates lots of destruction in it's wake, and even he did not want to be caught in it.

Mouse looked up as the Reptile dashed off to meet two figures, and then led them back. One man was clearly a survivor, and no-doubt, a surface dweller of sorts, for only one who spent much time in the sun would have such tanned skin. He had with him a young scavenger, who had clearly never been to the surface before, judging by the lack of marks that would have indicated hardship and struggle. The Reptile was still agitated, it seemed, though Mouse had no intentions of stealing food from someone else, and she would ensure that Harry did not steal, either. The strange man, though, was clearly the Reptile's master, and would likely be able to clear up whatever the situation was with his beast. If there was any misunderstanding, Mouse would explain it, just as she saw the situation. She disliked speaking, but she would rather speak than be killed for intruding when the Reptile led her here in the first place. Harry was likely at more risk than she was, given that he had wandered into the mess without even knowing. Once again, Mouse found that she was putting herself in a dangerous situation for the sake of someone inexperienced with surviving on the surface. She had done what she had specifically wanted to avoid, and that was taking responsibility for someone whose actions could get her killed.

She looked over at Harry, "Don't move, remain sitting. Let me explain this, if it is needed." She said, before turning to look back at the Reptile as it arrived with its master and the scavenger.

Serenity looked at the giant lizard that approached, her expression dull though she was really quite surprised to see that the man had be friended a lizard and was keeping it as a pet.  She had never really thought of the possibility as she pictured all the creatures above land as things that attacked on sight. Though there was always the possibility of raising one from birth... Huh.

Then the man, able to understand the lizard to an extent, took off, asking her to follow. That was something that Serenity felt comfortable above ground doing- she wasn't good at much, but athletic activity she could do. She followed the man, easily keeping up with his running. She kept, still, one hand wrapped around her dagger. She was jut waiting for a bug to surprise her.

They arrived in front of two people- one who seemed experienced an one who was new, like her. Serenity silently looked t the man she had been following, awaiting his judgement for the two.

-

Josh let out a whistle a he stepped into the large building, taking off the good of his dark blue jacket to reveal a dark tan and shaggy black hair that had sand present in it. His eyes gleamed with humor the same way one's eyes does when they know of a joke no one else does. There were a few small scars here and there along the sides of his face, but nothing that noticeable. The only thing not visible on his face was his mouth, a it was covered by a gas mask that was comparable to a doctor's mask if not for the filter sticking out of one side of the item.

Josh looked around the building, always impressed by such architecture- activity centers. Sure, they had some below but none were like the ones above ground. A thin layer of sand covered the floor, but everything else in the building seemed well preserved. He walked around, looking in different rooms. He found one with treadmills that below are never really seen often, and he passed by a room with a wall that ha colorful rocks nailed to it. Then there was a gym for basketball. Every room he saw Josh would quietly walk in, look around out of both curiosity and caution, then walk out.

Then Josh arrived at one room in particular- it had a large swimming pool in it, though most of the water Was drained from it and what was remaining had a thin layer of green algae present over it. The sides of it had black spots all over it from mildew and mold as, despite the climate outside, the water present in the air hadn't been dried out. Josh slowly walked into the room, trying to be as quiet as possible. Moisture present may attract bugs- even they have lungs that may need some relaxing every once in a while. He looked left, right, behind him, and then.... Above.

Just as Josh looked up, his eyes widened and before having time to dodge a bee had him in its grasp and had already carried him to the highest part of the room, flying around as if looking for an exit. Josh reacted quickly. He knew that the only time he could act was now, while the bee was looking for an exit. He had a butcher knife in one hand, wincing as the bee's grip on his shoulders tightened. He needed to wait for the right moment to... Now.

Josh brought the knife up and rammed it into the bee's fuzzy stomach, making sure to get the object lodged deep into it before pulling the weapon out. The bee let out a strange screech-like buzz before releasing Josh and he fell right into the algae-filled pool. Not the cleanest place to land, but he found it better than being stung or captured by a bee, both of which probably lead to one's death. He quickly swam in the shallow water until he was out of the pool. As soon as the action had been done, however, the bee had recovered the shock of the blow and, now angry, was charging at Josh.

Josh, however, was now ready. He readied his knife and waited as the bee dived for him, dodging to the side at the last moment to use his other hand to yank out his lead pipe and ram the weapon down on the bee's head, killing it. Josh looked at the dead body silently before taking his knife and scraping it against the bee's stinger. The poison, while not as bad as a wasp's or scorpion's, still helped. He placed the knife away and wiped the bee guts that were coating his pipe on the insect's fuzz-covered skin. He then placed that weapon away, as well, smiling a little. This fight could've ended a lot worse. He was lucky.

The victory was short-lived, however, as Josh's smile was replaced by a wince. Now that the adrenaline was beginning to leave his system, pain anywhere on him worsened. In this case, it was his shoulders. Josh took off his wet bag and jacket, then peeled off his shirt, as well. If others were present, he wouldn't have done such an act. No one was present, however. Josh tossed the three items across the room, where they landed close to the dead bee's body. It was then Josh examined his shoulders.

Both were bruised pretty badly, but his right one was the worst. It had dark bruises already forming on it and was popped out of joint, sticking forward instead of to the side. While he was used to such an injury, the frequency didn't make the pain any less excruciating. Josh slowly placed his left hand on his right shoulder before closing his eyes and pulling it back into place. For an instant, the pain worsened. Then it began to feel better. Much better. Josh sighed with relief, though his shoulders were still really sore. He walked across the room and placed his shirt and jacket back on before opening up his bag. He was getting pretty hungry. Josh pulled out the items he was looking for- a jar of peanut butter that was halfway eaten along with a package of crackers. He took out a few crackers an dipped them into the peanut butter before eating them. After eating a few, he placed the food back in his bag and stood up, ready to get back to exploring. He walked out of the building, searching for nothing in particular.

As Jedidiah arrived to his outpost, he came to the realization of why his friend was so up in arms. A boy had found his home, and had attempted to go through it. He thought to move slowly, not make any irrational movements despite the predicament. This had happened before. His friend however, we less then patient and once again moved as close to the door as it's gargantuan frame would allow. Jedidiah smiled slightly, under his mask. Poncho was the reason he believed animals were like people. They all had personalities.

Jedidiah approached, and placed a hand on the reptile's snout, and pushed it back. The reptile backed up with his hand still pressed to it's snout, as if it didnt want to go any farther than the arms reach, which it didnt. He entered his home, stopping at the entrance and looked around. He knew they were there. He first looked to the girl. An experienced surviver. She had been to the surface before, but she did not look like she had been here for a long time. Her clothing and skin did not bear the marks the sun and the sand could do in the scorched overworld over long periods of time. She knew what she was doing, however. The other, a boy. He seemed to be much less experienced. No doubt he had never been here before. Poor soul. He and others were the reason he helped when he could. He did not want others to end up like him.

"Why are you here." He said. It was more of a statement than a demand, but he would give them a chance to speak. It was generous after all, they were in his home without invitation, save for the girl. Although he did not know that yet.

Mouse looked up at the man from where she sat, not rising, "The reptile led me here, and then grew angry because he was here, likely taking shelter from a dust storm." She pointed at Harry, before withdrawing her hand, "I came in to get him, because he was frightened, but the reptile was so upset that it was risky to leave." She then fell silent again. She had essentially told the entire story in a nutshell, simplifying it so much that it took only a few choice words to actually explain their presence. It was immediately clear that she did not speak much, and when she did, she said little. Silence became something people determined to avoid conflict on the surface developed over time, evolving almost into an art of sorts. The less noise one made, the less likely anyone or anything would notice their presence. Some people chose to fight the creatures of the desert, but those that decided not to take the risk learned to disappear, making themselves all but nonexistent to others, either in sight or sound, though things such as smell could not be helped.

Harry looked up at the strange, masked figure. He was tan, and "surface-hardened", as some of the people would say back down under. She heard Mouse explain the situation. In his case, it wasn't correct. Although she would probably not know why he came in here. He arrived simply for food, which he did not know someone owned. It was clear this man was the owner of this food supply, and he was reassured now not to take it. Ever.

"Alright then. My apologies." Edgar said, slowly beginning to back up "Anyways, thank you for the assistance. We'll just...go now. Lance was bullshitting him. He knew who both of them were; they were people from long ago, back from the first time he was in this hell. He quickly realized that both of these people had better weaponry than he did, and that, even if they did know him, they would still kill him and, worse, Miranda. Maybe if he hinted to knowing them before going then they would leave himself and Miranda alone. Miranda began to slowly back away and Bob followed suit, skittering towards the end of the trailer. He climbed down the side, but Miranda stayed up, now far back enough to be out of Lance's and Xena's sights. Edgar looked over at her, and then back to Lance.

"Have a good evening Lance, Xena." he said before turning down the alley with a brisk walk. If he heard any running behind him then he'd take off full speed across the desert and hope for a miracle.

Serenity shook her was at Mouse's statement, one hand playing with her red ribbon as she raised her sad eyes to look at the duo that had been caught. "I don't think he came here for shelter. He was sent up with h purpose of finding food, so he came in search of it." Serenity lowered her eyes to the ground, continuing to play with the red ribbon that held her brai in place. To her the mission of finding food didnt matter if she was going to die anyways.

Mouse's dark eyes looked up at the girl, meeting her gaze, glinting with intense anger, as though she felt she herself had been accused of the crime of stealing, "Do not group either of us with thieves, I would not steal, and I would not permit others to do so. The reptile led me here, and he came here separately. I entered the building because he hid in that box." She then pointed over at the large ice storage box, and withdrew her hand again. There wasn't any sort of wavering note in her voice, and her ability to make eye contact suggested that she was either being completely honest, or was a very convincing liar. Her hand did not waver, either, and it was clear that despite the situation, she was remaining calm. It was the manner of someone who knew better than to panic and flee, being calm was a better response. Her behavior suggested that even if she had not been on the surface in awhile, she had not lost the mannerisms that would have protected her from being attacked by insects.
