Name:
Selena Chalyvas
Nickname/Alias/Etc:
Cyborg, Gearbox, Human Toaster, Microwave Chick, etc.
Gender
Female. Very much female. However, her transformations will sometimes render her in a sorta genderless state. But she's still a chick. Minus all the stuff that makes her a chick. You feel me?
Age
14
Height:
She's around 5'6
Weight:
120, normally. This can fluctuate drastically. Not like I lost five pounds in a week drastically, I mean hundreds of pounds by the hour. Yeah she totally f*cks up the Weightwatchers points thing.
Appearance
Hair Color:
Her hair is stark white. Like snow. Or a blank sheet of Microsoft Word. Or the people singing along at a Coldplay concert.
Eye Color:
Light blue.
Ethnicity:
She's Caucasian, seems to be a blend of eastern and southern European.
Physical Appearance:
Okay, so Selena can go from normal looking to super freaky pretty quickly. However, she's essentially able to change herself in billions of ways, so I'll describe her "base" appearance and then elaborate on the others as they come. Selena's a cute girl-not the sort of sexy that makes you stare as she walks by, but she's not bad-looking. Selena's white hair is something of an oddity, and she normally keeps it back in a ponytail or a bun. Her face is round and soft, with no sharp features or harsh edges. Her nose is a little small, and there's a couple of faint freckles across her upper cheeks, underneath her eyes. She likes to use heavy amounts of mascara and eyeshadow, 'cause it looks totally awesome contrasted with the white hair. She's got a lithe look to her-she's thin and lean, not having much in the way of curves. She tends to walk calmly and slowly, taking in the world around her, and is generally smiling and up-beat. She's about mid-way through puberty-she's putting on makeup and buying bras but nobody's mistaking her for a fully grown woman yet. Selena's still getting used to some of her new height, and is a bit of a clutz. She can sometimes go a little too heavy on the makeup, and has known to occasionally be a lovely shade of crimson from trying to suntan too much. Her wardrobe's also in constant flux, as she's still trying to figure out her style.
Attire:
Selena's a pretty well dressed chick. She has a leather trench coat that she absolutely adores, and wears a lot. Not because she's going for the Matrix look, but because given her body's sometimes awkward transformations, it can help to cover it up, and if she rips through her other clothes she can conceal her private parts with it. I don't really know girl's fashion, so yeah.
Personality
Outward & Innate Personality:
I'm not going to lie, Selena's powers make her a pretty damned powerful metahuman. Given twenty, thirty years, she could easily be one of the most powerful metas in existence, and if she properly applied herself, she could have a reach far beyond Aurum. Power is a corrupting influence, regardless of who wields it. While Selena is not corrupt, nor evil, she does fall prey to the same things anyone with power does: taking shortcuts. A teenager that barely understands their own body or emotions, given powers they can't begin to fathom the consequences of? Yeah, perfect storm right there. Selena often tries to help others, but sometimes loses sight of morality along the way. To her, f*cking up a bank's accounts to relieve someone's debts is a good thing. Hacking the email of her friend's boyfriend to see if he's really cheating is okay. She struggles to understand the right thing to do, when the ends justify the means, and when she's gone over the line. Most people do. She's not a monster, but is admittedly short-sighted. If given an official position of power, Selena would likely perform horribly: she lacks leadership skills, is stubborn, and has difficulty seeing the bigger picture. However, if you assigned her a single task, you would find she performed quite well: in spite of her negative traits, Selena is smart, tenacious, and a hard worker. She's capable of thinking outside the box and coming up with unorthodox solutions, which is part of the reason she gets herself into trouble in the first place: she often sees far more pragmatic solutions to problems that allow her to do the "right thing". Selena's not super charismatic, but she doesn't alienate people, either. Well, her appearance and powers might, but her personality itself is fine. She tends to get inflamed over injustices and is a bit confrontational, but she really does have her heart in the right place. She stands up for others and keeps an eye out for others. Despite her occasional morally grey choices, she's not one for acting cruelly. In other words, don't take my dissertation on her morality as her being a renegade that does whatever it takes. Most of the stuff I mentioned is in regards to cyber crimes or petty sabotage. If you handed her a gun and told her that killing one person would save all of Aurum, she couldn't do it. She's not much for physical fighting, and doesn't have a ton of experience. She wants to do the right thing and help, but would prefer to be in a supporting role rather than throwing haymakers at the Skulls herself. Selena's not a coward, she just doesn't like violence. She's also somewhat insecure about herself-as most teenagers are-and tends to lionize the cooler, upper echelon members of the SAMs that she likes. Selena does have a bit of a distaste for authority figures otherwise, though, and can be difficult to get along with.
Hobbies/Interests:
She likes board games, computer games, mechanics, electronics, and problem solving or lateral thinking. If you told her a riddle, she's the type to mull over it for a week or two rather than google the answer.
Skills/Talents:
Unparalleled in terms of repairing or designing mechanics and electronics/software. She's good at tackling problems and refuses to quit. She has potential to be a capable fighter, but has no actual experience. Selena's main strengths are with her versatility as a metahuman and her intelligence as a regular human.
Prized Possession:
Her teddy bear that she still secretly sleeps with.
Quote(s):
"...what? No, I can't keep your snapchats, that's ridiculous..."
Abilities
Power Class: Other
Power:
Selena is capable of absorbing any mechanical device she comes across. Once absorbed, she is capable of adjusting it and utilizing it as she sees fit. For instance, if she absorbed an iPod, she could play the contents of its library and adjust her body to that purpose. Her power is very open-ended, and is primarily manifested by the very interesting make-up of her body. As opposed to a traditional, cells-and-sinew-and-blood anatomy, Selena is made up of trillions upon trillions of nanomachines. These essentially function the same way as a normal body would-she gets sleepy, hungry, tired, and she bleeds (white blood) if cut. Of course, they're also capable of absorbing tremendous amounts of energy (only in the form Selena can regulate-if you shoot her, she can't absorb it. Rather, if you stick some jumper cables on her and rev your car, she can absorb that) and "memorizing" mechanical devices they come into contact with. This devices can be incredibly simple, like a grappling hook, or ridiculously complex, like an internal combustion engine or a Tesla coil. After it's absorbed, she can manipulate her body to utilize it-so, if she absorbs a blender, say, she can turn her fingers into blades, or perhaps make blades jut out of her wrists. She has an inherent grasp of technology and can interact with it near-seamlessly. A modicum of effort has her fingers turning into USB ports, her nerves into wires and cables, so on and so forth.
Weaknesses/Limitations/Drawbacks:
First off, know how if you try and run too much sh*t on a computer, it gets sluggish and crashes? Same with Selena. Sure, she could get a router and look up CENSORED on the internet for you. But that's essentially what a smartphone does. If she tried to actively grasp different articles on Wikipedia while holding a conversation with you, feigning her expertise on a subject, she could maybe pull it off. If she was having to actively do that while utilizing her power in another way, she'd be in danger of overexerting herself. All her metahuman powers would begin to run sluggishly and her natural metabolic processes would slow down: when this occurs, she has to "reboot" and clear herself of all mechanical devices within herself to restore herself to normal. Additionally, more complex devices have tremendous energy requirements. Selena could absorb a car engine and deliver a punch with several hundred horsepower behind it, but it would knock her comatose afterwards. If Selena is hooked up to an active power source-say, operating near a generator, she's got much more to work with. She is capable of using the original power source of her absorbed device-for example, using the car example, she could absorb several gallons of gasoline and function better. Selena is also disrupted by water. A few drops won't rattle her, but if she's submerged in water her powers will cease to function until she dries off. If she tries to use her powers in water, she runs the risk of short-circuiting. Selena is also capable of overheating, which requires her to rest. Really, most of Selena's powers revolve around her using up her human energy reserves whilst powering her supernatural gifts. If you hooked up a car battery to her and asked her to calculate an entire calculus book at once, she could do it easily. If you handed the book to her and told her to figure it out, she'd be forced to rely on her human abilities. She could use her metahuman powers, but it would be limited to a regular human using a calculator trying to solve the problems. Does that make any sense?
Additionally, while she has access to the internet (she's absorbed a couple of cell phones from different carriers for this very purpose-now, she has porn wherever she goes), she is capable of getting viruses. These don't do anything weird like overwrite her personality, mainly because she has one hell of a firewall. But, they can fudge up whatever system she contracted them on, and she's forced to cut that device out until she can find another. All her cell phones are linked to let her compute faster, so a single virus would rid her internet-less for a while. Any object that doesn't run off pure energy-let's say, a gun, she'll need ammunition for. If she absorbs a grappling hook, she'll also need to absorb the rope (which she is capable of, as it's a source of fuel for the grappling hook), and she can't fabricate more. Absorbing things adds to her weight. Taking on a few cell phones is nothing. Heavier stuff will make her body mass bulk up, making sneaking or quick movement or difficult, and taking a bigger toll on her metabolism, as she has to eat more to power her swole ass self.
She's also not very fond of magnets. They disrupt whatever electronics she's using and, should she try and convert her body into any of the metallic devices she has stored, she'll endure quite a bit of pain. While she can absorb most devices, they must have some degree of complexity. So, we'll say she could absorb one of those fancy knife/taser combos, but she couldn't absorb a straight up knife. She could absorb a blender, but not a cheese grater.
Other: Selena's power has tremendous ability but can also be very crippling. She needs to be careful how much she absorbs and not to overextend herself, or she runs the risk of exhausting herself. She's most dangerous if you sit her down in front of a computer, let her turn her leg into an extension cord, and turn herself into a supercomputer. In this regard, she can be a devastating source of intel and communications. In direct combat, she'll need to constantly absorb more energy to sustain high-level activities.
