PostSubject: Re: Ophidian Vale   Ophidian Vale - Page 7 EmptySat Apr 06, 2013 12:17 am

Hehkahnah would make a nice name, but it's not really any language. I just made it up.

Also, another note, aside from the request for Tenebris' subplot, I'm also going to make one final character, who will pretty much travel with Arbora. He's going to be a sort of guardian-like dragon trying to protect her because she's a friend, but he's going to be sort of unintelligent, and he gets offended pretty easily. He's going to basically contrast with Tenebris in a sense that the two are going to clash, and that it's going to highlight the aspects of both characters.

Also to all rpers with Southern Island dragons, I'm going to send out a message later about a kind of island story arc involving the Shadow and Notus.

Okay, then, but my own character is actually supposed to be a supporting part for Tenebris, who is sort of my main character among the ones I created. Arbora will likely travel to the mainland later.

Hmm... I suppose Thundrus is likely to stay with Abora until later, whenever he decides to leave, or when Kehrett pushes his mind off the edge again.

Okay, then, although Kehrett strikes me more as an irritable second person that seems to just enjoy messing with Thundrus, not so much as something that would drive someone insane.

Dark, do you think you could add as section in the OP to describe different regions of the Vale? I'd like to describe the Southern Islands better.

Sure. Go ahead and just edit the post once I've added in the header and add in those things.

Irratating during the daytime, but the bringer of nightmares during the night.

Early on, when this figure was new and strange to Thundrus, Kehrett nearly made him lose it several times. Now Kehrett's not a problem, except when dreaming. In dreams, Kehrett could touch and 'harm' Thundrus (At least he imagines Kehrett harming him), and give him terrifying visions. He has started to expect them, but it turns out that Kehrett has a new trick up his sleeve each time.

And every time he makes a friend, Kehrett just gets new material.

Grox, did you see my idea about Tenebris' sub plot, and is it okay if I make one final character? I know the story has a main plot, but I'm trying to ask first to avoid causing confusion later.

Ophidian Vale - Page 7 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ophidian Vale   Ophidian Vale - Page 7 EmptySat Apr 06, 2013 2:31 pm

Okay, here's the character. He's a fast flier and swimmer, and he's also got a unique form of attack, however, on the downside, he can't breathe fire or anything like that, and he's not the brightest guy in the world.

Name: Chris ‘Thresher’

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance: Chris has an extremely unique appearance compared to most dragons, due to the nature of his build. Being bipedal, albeit with a somewhat hunched-over stance due to the size and weight of his wings, Chris is rather tall, being 27’0” from the top of his head to where his feet touch the ground. His tail, which starts thick, but tapers off to a fine point, is about 14’5” feet long by itself, making it about half his height. However, the most noticeable aspect of Thresher’s appearance is his wings, and the fact that he has four of them, rather than two. His wingspan for both pairs of wings is roughly 54’0” feet long. Chris does not have defined front talons, and is therefore considered to have a wyvern or drake body type, although which of the two forms is not well defined.

Thresher boasts a stocky, muscular build, and is rather compact in appearance. Being barrel-chested, with broad shoulders, he has incredible lung and heart capacity, and thick plates of rough skin on his entire torso and back gives the impression that he is wearing armor. Despite this, he appears to have a narrow abdomen, which has five segments, due to rings of leathery armor, similar to those found on his chest. His neck is extremely thick, but somewhat short, and blends almost evenly with his upper body, making an almost diamond-like shape when seen from the side. Chris’ legs are extremely thick and powerful, appearing splayed out, and armored at the upper thighs, knees, and the front of the shins. The feet themselves are vaguely humanoid in shape, but have extremely long talons and toes, along with webbing between them. These toes are often splayed out, much like fish fins. Thresher’s tail appears to be made of overlapping segments, which continue onto his back all the way to his head, one segment between Chris’ shoulder blades having a large, triangular protrusion on it. Chris’ wings in appearance are long and fin-like in shape, more like those of a shark, and arranged in a fashion so that when splayed out they form an X-shape, the lower pair being located almost directly beneath the first. However, these wings’ tips also serve as graspers, the very tips of them having five long, sharp claws that, while somewhat movable, lack dexterity. Thresher’s face appears to be narrow and diamond-shaped, having a narrow, triangular bony crest and dewlap on his lower jaw and face. His teeth are medium-length, and are much like razors. Armor-like plates form circles around his eyes and appear on his face like a helmet. Thresher does not possess scales, and instead has rough, sandpapery skin that is extremely thick, especially on armored parts of his body.

Chris’ main coloration is a dark magenta color, mottled with small flecks of cyan, which fades to a sort of pale bluish-grey on non-armored parts of his body, such as around his abdomen, and on the unarmored parts of his legs. The sharp claws on his feet and wings are a shiny black color. Thresher’s small eyes are a pale yellow color, and are gem-like in appearance, the elliptical pupil being ringed by faint shades of amber.

Personality: Thresher is a relatively simple-minded dragon, easily noted by others as unintelligent, or unable to comprehend more complex subjects. As a result, this often leads to many cases of people joking or teasing him about his lack of knowledge, as well as meaner individuals insulting him by calling him derogatory names. As a result, Chris is generally easily offended, and becomes defensive when laughed at, the only exceptions being when he is trying to tell a joke, or when he is speaking to close friends. Due to his usual lack of comprehension, Chris often ignores common rules of courtesy, not calling people terms such as ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’, and often having an almost rude pattern of speech. However, Thresher often means no offense by speaking in such a fashion, and often blunders into arguments by accident as a result. When upset, Thresher finds it difficult to think clearly, and often acts on impulse. As a result, in a verbal fight, he typically uses some of the same insults repeatedly, calling people he does not like terms such as shallow or sleazy, and often calling them slugs as well. Despite being physically very strong, Thresher does not like to get involved in physical violence, as a result of guilt from his past as a bully, and reluctance to hurt others. He has no trouble calling people out for their mistakes, however, especially if he does not like them. When around friends, Chris displays a rather mild-mannered temper, being generally very sweet and friendly, as well as protective, not wanting harm to come to them. If he fails to help his companions, Thresher will typically feel guilty or insecure, wondering if they really need him around, although he is quickly reassured most of the time. Chris is sometimes lightly teased, due to his tendency to stop thinking if he gets hungry (Which happens pretty often) and his amazing ability to sleep through anything, even really loud noises. He does not feel offense from this, though, because he finds humor in this. Fiercely loyal, Chris will never betray a friend.

History: Chris was born under unique circumstances, hatching from an egg resting on the ocean floor, which was seemingly abandoned by his parents. Although born already capable of fending for himself, Chris grew up with no help from others, and had little to no education, which did not do his general simple thought process any justice. Upon finally arriving at the island of Hehkahnah, Thresher settled on the northern side of it, where the local animals were too loud at night for the rest of the residents to sleep there, although Chris could easily sleep through it. Despite having a wide berth nobody else wanted to have, Chris would frequently travel to the southern portion of the island to interact with residents. However, due to his strange appearance and lack of education, many of the dragons his age teased him, and as a result, he felt forced to defend himself. Chris became a bully, beating those who so much as made eye contact, although he did not kill anyone. He eventually received the nickname ‘Thresher’ due to his generally isolated location, amazing strength when fighting, as well as his somewhat shark-like appearance. However, upon hurting a friend of Arbora’s, Thresher was later confronted by the young dragoness, and, feeling guilty about harming everyone, and not wanting to do the same to the wyvern, confessed his real feelings, and apologized to everyone, restoring peace to the island. Since then, Chris has been treated with respect, although many are still wary or frightened of him. He now has friends, including Arbora, and has since proved to be extremely loyal to them.

Abilities/Powers: Chris is an extremely powerful dragon, having a good balance of speed and strength, as well as physical assets that make him a dangerous foe. Instead of having armored scales, Chris has rough skin similar to a shark’s, which makes him streamlined, as well as difficult to touch without injury. Although this only applies to dragons with sensitive or soft scales, it applies to any dragon that attempts to bite him. The thick armored plates covering Thresher’s body provide extra protection, resulting in all attacks meant to leave cuts relatively weaker, due to piercing each plate being difficult. In addition to Chris’ incredible defense, he is also very strong in regards to attack. The long, sharp claws that tip his wings are easily used as weapons, and due to his wingspan, and the fact that he has two pairs of muscular, fin-like wings, He is able to reach enemies at an incredible distance, performing multiple attacks at once. He is capable of delivering strong, stabbing blows with his claws, almost like spears. These wings double as shields, being thick, although still functional for flight. Chris is also able to swim blindingly fast, and is also a good flier, although this is often found surprising. As of yet, he does not appear to have any form of breath, possibly as a result of a mutation, or perhaps because his species does not have one, although Chris appears to be the only member of his kind thus far. He is capable of picking up electromagnetic waves, allowing him to effectively detect things, as well as navigate. His eyes, despite being small, are extremely powerful, capable of seeing in extreme darkness, and even picking things out from miles away. Thresher also has a strong sense of smell, making him a good tracker.

PostSubject: Re: Ophidian Vale   Ophidian Vale - Page 7 EmptySat Apr 06, 2013 5:22 pm

Hey I made a description of the Southern Islands and some of its more popular islands. Vipera, if you want to change Hehkahnah in any way, just edit your changes in.

The Southern Islands

The Southern islands are a beautiful place filled with magical creatures of all sorts. The islands are located in the shallow seas of the Southern Ocean. They are a very hot and tropical island chain, though the climates will change slightly depending on which island you’re on. There are many, many islands in the Southern Islands, almost too many to count. Most of the islands, however, are very small, and may be about a half a mile long at most, though some can be very large. Most of the islands are covered in thick rainforests, though there are desert islands as well in the Southern Islands, as well as a few mountainous volcanic islands. The seas of the Southern Islands are constantly alive with fantastic coral reefs and fish of millions of different species. Humpback whales are famous for migrating to the Southern Islands once a year to mate and raise their babies in the warm, relatively safe seas. The islands are lead by Notus, the sea serpent.

Not all is perfect in the Southern Islands, however. There are some problems affecting the islands which make some of them bad places to live. Firstly, there’s the gangs. Black Jungle Wyverns, a species of pack-hunting, territorial dragons, have set up their own gangs on certain islands. They treat that island as their own turf, and expect everyone else to bring them food or suffer. Because the Jungle Wyverns are so strong, not many stand up to them, and those who do are put down. Another problem affecting the Islands is climate change. As of recent, more and more smoke have been pouring out of the Southern Islands’ volcanoes, causing the temperature to increase and making more hurricanes strike the islands. Storms come along on an almost monthly basis during the warmer months and destroy entire sections of forests. Nobody knows why the volcanoes are more active all of a sudden, though a few believe that it may have something to do with the reported “magma dragon” sightings on the mainland, though this has yet to be proven. These are some of the larger and more famous islands, as well as some (not all) of the animals that live on them.

Fore: Fore is one of the larger islands in the Southern Islands, and is about 200 miles long, and 100 miles wide. It is oval-shaped with smooth, white beaches dotted with beautiful rock formations made of coral and hardened lava. The island is mostly taken up by dense forests of tropical trees which are inhabited by scores of different species of animals. The island is most well known for its bird population, and has many beautiful species of winged creatures besides dragons. Fore plays host to the Fore River, a large river known for its many species of fish. At the river delta of the Fore River, there is a small bay which is shaped like a bitemark (hence the name Sharkbite Bay). Sharkbite Bay is inhabited by many predatory fish who stay at the river delta and ambush fish who try to leave the river. This bay is Notus’ favorite hunting spot, as she will catch the sharks by surprise when they go to ambush fish.

Animals:

In the jungle: Sun Conure, Star finch, Scarlet Ibis, Screaming Piha, Quaker Parrot, Birds of Paradise, Orange-breasted fig parrot, Harpy eagle, Three-toed sloth, Howler monkey, tapir, Yellow-streaked Lory, Jaguar, Crimson Rosella, Whitehead’s Trogon, anaconda, emerald tree boa, poison dart frogs (several species), blue Iguana

Sharkbite Bay: Tiger Shark, Albacore Tuna, Piraiba, Wandering Albatross, brown pelican, remora, cookie cutter shark, Blue shark, bull shark, giant clam, mussel, Frigatebird, spiny lobster, bull-headed stingray

Welawai: Welawai is a medium-sized island, being about 4 miles long and 3 1/2 miles wide. The island is roughly circular, with rough, rocky waters. The island is mostly sand, though there are a few clumps of tropical jungle here and there. The island is most well known for its geothermal vents and geysers that blast boiling hot water hundreds of feet into the air. This island plays host to the Nyoka Wyvern gang, which is lead by Pinao.

Animals: flying squirrel, flying fox, proboscis monkey, bay cat, Orangutan, Crimson-headed Partridge, Pygmy Ibon, Black-breasted Fruithunter, Mountain Blackeye, two-toed sloth, Bulwer’s Pheasant, Black Oriole, painted treeshrew,

Hehkahnah: Hehkahnah is a medium-sized island that is roughly 50 miles in diameter, and boasts a shape that strongly resembles a dragon's three-toed foot, although its initial shape is round. With a large variety of animal species, more than can be listed, and just as many tropical plants, Hehkahnah is extremely diverse in its flora and fauna. Much of the island is covered in lush green jungles, although further to the south a variety of rocky cliffs, riddled with caves, serves as homes to the small local population of dragons. Due to the bright blue ocean, pure white sands, and general atmosphere, this island is very appealing to most creatures, although few know it exists, and the dragons living there are rather isolated from the outside world. At night, the jungle is extremely loud, due to the animals present, which is even more evident on the northern part of the island, which is largely uninhabited, due to the poor living conditions, and the fact that many dragons find it impossible to sleep. The island also has many undersea caves underneath it, however, they are extremely dangerous, due to having large numbers of toxic sea snakes, as well as jellyfish. The small community of residents is close-knit, and largely peaceful, however, they are known to be extremely vicious in battle when their home is threatened. Likewise, certain birds on the island are said to intimidate outsiders at night, the various birds producing calls that take the forms of terrifying screeches, nasal laughter, as well as sounds that strongly resemble the spoken words, 'Go away', some birds even having the phrase in their name.

Animals: Howler Monkey, Spider Monkey, Aye-Aye Monkey, Bushbaby, Capuchin Monkey, Pouched Rat, Tree Pangolin, Bare-Faced Go-Away-bird, White-bellied Go-Away-bird, screaming Piha Fossa, Ocelot, Ring-Tailed Mongoose, Giant Porcupine, Magpie, Little Shrikethrush, Hooded Pitohui, Banded Sea Krait, Coral Snake, Blister Beetle, Cicada, Hissing Cockroach, Osprey, Pelican, Seagull, Frigatebird, Tropicbird, Sandpiper, Sand Crab, Mole Crab, Sand Flea, etc.

Kinohi: Kinohi is the largest island in the Southern Islands, and is the most important. Kinohi is in the exact center of the Southern Islands, and is a perfect circle, with a diameter of about 300 miles. The beaches of Kinohi are black with volcanic ash, and are very smooth. Kinohi is covered in temperate rainforests where very rare animals live in harmony. The island is covered in giant redwood trees, and are the only place in the Ophidian Vale where they grow. In the very center of Kinohi is the Lake of Origin, a perfectly circular lake where Notus lives. The Lake has many species of rare fish living in its depths despite the fact that the water is warm thanks to geothermal vents. Around the Lake of Origin is a section of tropical jungle where very rare animals thrive.

animals:

In the redwood forest: Roosevelt Elk, Bald Eagle, Northern Spotted Owl, moose, Snowy Plover, Spirit bear (white black bear), Pacific tree frog, bobcat, grey fox, Varied thrush, chestnut-backed chickadee, grey wolf, winter wren, Steller’s Jay, Condor, blue heron, jaguar, Osprey, western fence lizard, Northern Alligator Lizard, western toad,
In the jungle: Pinta Island Tortoise, Javan Rhino, Tamaraw, Kiwi, Platypus, Anteater, pygmy three-toed sloth, red-crested tree rat, Hainan Gibbon, Northern bald ibis, Roloway monkey, Rio Pescado Stubfoot Toad, Sumatran Tiger,

In the Lake: Angel shark, Wels catfish, Krate, neon tetra, Evarra, Perrito de Parras, yellowfin cutthroat trout, Bostami turtle, Giant Amazon River Turtle, Ash meadows killifish, Alvord Cutthroat trout, Galapagos Damsel, Cyprinus yilongensis, Potosi Pupfish, horseshoe crab, Platypus

Okay, then. Changed it. Maxx, you do realize that the islands are actually extremely small? Hehkahnah alone I imagined was 50 miles in diameter, and we have to keep in mind that dragons are pretty big, half the time.

Ophidian Vale - Page 7 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ophidian Vale   Ophidian Vale - Page 7 EmptySun Apr 07, 2013 5:21 am

Hey grox, this is my last character (hopefully) and I was wondering if he could be a Hallow. if not, I’ll change the age.

Name: Remo Poul

age: awaiting Grox's approval. Possibly 2,000

gender: male

Appearance: Behold Remo, king of Moa island. Remo is a cockatrice. He is about seven feet tall with a wingspan of about twelve feet, and weighs around 300 pounds. However, contrary to popular belief, Cockatrices are not just gigantic chickens. Remo’s body is very serpentine, though he has legs. Remo’s main body has olive scales and a head like an eyelash pit viper’s, though this is also olive. His legs are those of a chicken’s, though they are as thick as an ostrich's leg. His feet have the trademark rooster claw on them, which is very sharp and threatening. Remo has the wings of a chicken, though they are much larger and don’t fold into his body well, causing them to only half fold and sit at his sides like butterfly wings. On Remo’s head is a rooster crest and a dewlap which are both red, and on the tip of his tail is a plume of chicken feathers which is normally very unkempt. Now, most dragons look down at Remo and laugh, as he seems to be scrawny and too small to pose a threat. I feel sorry for those dragons, but we will learn more about that later.

personality: Remo is the chicken king, and he doesn’t forget it. Everywhere he goes, he expects everyone to run or bow, and if they don’t he gets very angry. Because of this, his loyal subjects fly wherever he is going to and tell everyone of his arrival, though this often does not amount to much more than a free meal for the dragons. Remo is very cocky (pardon the pun) and believes himself to be more important than any other dragon, though he is good at playing the part of a humble servant until he has time to strike. Remo always gets what he wants, and is greedy as sin. He takes what he wants, and will not share or give back. He is very sneaky at times, and will poach his enemies when they are unaware (chicken puns are so much fun). So yeah, Remo isn’t really a guy who you want to hang around unless you either want to see the whole Ophidian Vale taken over by chickens or you really need some original recipe.

powers: Repent, ye chicken-eaters, for the bringer of poultry justice has arrived! Remo doesn’t seem very strong or fast, but underestimate him and you’ll be his subjects’ next meal. He is a slow flier, and can only glide at about 40 mph on a good day with a tailwind. He doesn’t breathe fire either, making him seem rather weak. But there’s an old story about Cockatrices. You see, a Cockatrice is a chicken egg sat on by a toad, and a Basilisk is a toad egg (if you can call them eggs) sat on by a chicken. Because of this, Cockatrices and basilisks have similar powers. Staring a Cockatrice in the eye won’t kill you, but it’s not a good idea. Though nonfatal, staring in Remo’s eye causes the starer to become weak and extremely tired (like after Thanksgiving dinner). Dragons who stare Remo in the eye find themselves falling asleep or becoming too weak to beat their wings or lift their tails in defense. Remo’s bite is poisonous as well, and causes wild hallucinations which cause the target’s mind to turn to mush for an hour or so, long enough for Remo to escape or dispatch you. However, Remo has a more...practical talent besides a dangerous gaze and a poisonous bite. You see, Remo is the leader of the Shadowfowl or Moa island. Shadowfowl are like evil chickens; they are black chickens which are more powerful and ferocious than a normal chicken. Shadowcocks (rooster Shadowfowl) have very sharp claws and are very aggressive, and Shadowhens (chicken shadowfowls) can actually lay magical eggs that explode when they sense hostile movement, sending boiling hot egg yolk everywhere. Remo can summon clouds of hundreds of Shadowfowl at his command, and they instantly appear, battle-ready. Now, most would think that a Shadowfowl isn’t very threatening. I mean, it’s just a stupid chicken, right? Well, one Shadowfowl is pretty weak, but several hundred dropping boiling eggs and pecking off your very scales pack a pretty powerful punch. They are just chickens, though, and large dragons (for example, Niovisus) will require several clouds of chickens which requires a lot of energy, tiring Remo out. Remo has one other weakness too; mirrors. If Remo sees his reflection, his own sleeping powers will lull him to sleep, making him a nonissue. And without their fearless leader, the Shadowfowl scatter and are unable to coordinate their attacks.

other: flame. I’ll be adding Moa to the Southern Islands later.

Uh...Maxx, you got the basilisk and cockatrice origins mixed up. The basilisk is the toad egg hatched by the chicken, and the cockatrice is the chicken egg hatched by the toad.

It's fine, it's a pretty easy mistake to make. Also, forgot to ask, did you still want to try to do the prize dragon/ brine lindwurm trade? My dragons should be able to breed again.

In addition to that, in Kaiju, I have just taken over the RP for Lone, so if you still want to be in it, you may want to post.

You did? Um, I'll think about it. I'm not sure I can maintain being in more than 2 roleplays at the same time right now. I'll look into it.

And yeah, we can do the trade. I'll see if my dragons can breed again yet.

EDIT: NEW EGG RELEASE! VOLCANO ONLY!!!!

Okay, then. I just got a brine egg with a good lineage.

EDIT: Just bred a hybrid dragon egg. It might be a cool one.

Moa: Do you know that part of the Lion King where Mufasa is showing Symba the kingdom and says “everything that the light touches is your kingdom”? Well, in that comparison, Moa is the elephant graveyard. Moa is a smaller island, about two miles long and 3/4 of a mile wide at its widest point. The island is roughly triangular-shaped, with a smooth coastline of tan sand. The island is entirely desert, and seems to be devoid of life save a few small patches of yellowing grass. The island is almost entirely sand with some jagged rocks sticking up from out of the sand. In the center of the island is a giant grey rock spire which stretches towards the sky and appears twisted, as it has swirling paths going up both sides. At the base of this rock spire is a sea of burrows, which connect to the underground lair of the Shadowfowl. Most of the island is, in fact, underground, in a series of rock caves which are very dark and hard to navigate through. Few creatures live on the island, and none want to.

animals: (The following breeds are actual chickens in Shadowfowl form on the island) Australorp chicken, Sulmtaler, Silkie chicken, Cubalaya, Longtailed phoenix chicken, Sumatran chicken, Aseel, Orloff
