Haha, Patches, I feel like most people did that. I remember thinking "epitome" was "epp-uh-tome" for a while. I thought I was hot sh*t because I knew a big word. Nope. Not at all.

I used to pronounce chihuahua "chee-hua-hua" when i was little.

I said "want" and "won't" the same way. But that isn't a big deal. A lot of people I have heard say it that way

Ah, I missed your question. My bad.

People do have some degree of control over their arena suits. However, it's only limited to customizing it, or altering cosmetics. People aren't allowed to make it from the ground up since it was designed to assist with their powers. Of course, the suits will be checked for anything illegal before they're allowed onto the proving grounds.
