The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptySat Apr 12, 2014 4:40 pm

Everything was dead silent.

Too quiet for nature's case. Nothing made a sound. No birds, or crickets, or mice made any movement.

No light but the moon's dim glow lit the flooded plains. Enough to see the water, and maybe a shape or two here and there, but not enough light to illuminate the infamous glow of eyes that peeked out of the water ominously. They were watching. Always watching so... so carefully. The murky water concealing their massive bodies.

It was especially dark this night.

The darkness would be their ally.

They waited until the clouds in the sky passed the moon, casting and almost pitch black shadow over the world.  The water's glassy reflection of the light disappeared, and you couldnt see more than a foot in front of your face. A breeze blew by, it's ghost like wail being the only sound in the swamp.

Everything moved at once.

From all directions waterlogged noises could be heard. Impossible to home in on. There was no scent to smell. No sight to be seen. Nothing but noises in all directions. They were everywhere. The lions were completely surrounded. The lions that were on logs were trapped on them with little room to maneuver, and with no room to dodge the strike of a hungry crocodile. Those that were on the branches of threes however were luckier souls. With the ability to climb higher into them to escape the beasts should they attack. An angry adult male could propel itself six feet out of the water to catch prey.

The lions would have nowhere to go but up.

And up, was limited.

The sounds grew louder, and once they were within a few short feet, the lake grew silent once again. Eerily quiet. Something big rocked a few of the logs as it went under them, causing the lions on them to stumble and fight to keep their balance. The wave of water which was propelled by something just inches below the lions petered out just short of the front, and a hiss went off just behind Var, but vanished less than a second after.

To them, or more appropriately to HIM, this was a game.

And the lions were right in the middle of it.

Kyra lowered her ears, alarmed, "Oh...dear...I don't think these guys are with Aina..." She said. Seeing as they were being outright threatened by crocodiles, who made no true attempts at communicating, she didn't think the little red-eyed female was among their number. Suddenly her threats and menacing gaze didn't seem so bad. She had told the truth and had helped them get across the river, although she had made everyone downright nervous. Despite this, she had never attacked them, and that was a huge difference. She hadn't learned how to deal with crocodiles, they weren't so common in Ethiopia, not where she was used to living. "Guys...what do we do?"

________________________________________________________________________________

Shadow, in truth, chewing his mouthful of vegetation, with his twisted vines, scars, and oily, matted fur, looked quite harmless, despite his great size. One would even think he was deceptively weak in appearance, because a lion who looked like him wouldn't be seen as very threatening, under regular circumstances. He was more likely stronger than he looked, but watching him eat would make someone merely dismiss him as highly eccentric. He fit perfectly alongside Coglon in that category, both were highly unusual in behavior. Shadow tilted his head to one side, still watching Cyla. His gaze had that odd, staring quality that suggested that the longer someone was under it, the greater the chance he was going to find out all their secrets. It wasn't threatening, not outright, but it made people uneasy, all the same, unless they had gotten used to it. Coglon also fell into this category, he was no longer worried by Shadow's eyes.

With his head tilted, and the slightest change of a facial expression, it seemed that Shadow's feelings were slightly hurt, by Cyla's reaction to him. He would accept any sort of reaction that he got from people, but that didn't mean that some things didn't hurt. He was strange, yes, but he was still a lion. Most people couldn't get past all the unusual behaviors he had. He was, to simply put it, misunderstood.

Var looked at the crocodiles and then back at Kyra. "I... I..." he was speechless. His jaw open. "I don't know..."

"Move along the limbs of the trees" said an eerie voice behind Var's ear. He looked around, but found no one. He looked at everyone.

"Let's move up in the tree branches! Quickly now!" He said climbing up into one of the trees. It was very frightening as he looked down, knowing that at a single wrong move he'd be food.

Saber, Magir, and Taru followed.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptyMon Apr 14, 2014 1:09 am

Just as Taru made it up the tree a monster of a crocodile exploded from the water. It was easily three times the size of the largest lion and was covered with battle scars, and was missing an eye. It was so large it was able to reach high enough as to clip Taru's foot with on it's massive three and a half inch teeth before the beast's raw size succumbed to gravity. It was larger than a hippo in width and had an endless pit that was it's gullet.

"Please, we only want to have you for dinner, kittens!" It bellowed as it came back up to the surface. "I promise, we dont bite!"

The crocodile dwarfed it's comrades, who began to circle the trees as the lions went up into them. Every now and again a large male would slam his head or tail into it's trunk, shaking the trees. The crocodiles were now on the full offensive. "Gustave has always been the best host!" The giant bellowed, before moving once again, circling around the tree with a twenty foot radius, shorter than it's body, and then once again exploded into a burst of speed as it's powerful tail forced it forward. The giant rammed into the tree trunk, causing a powerful tremor to shock through to the top of the tree, causing leaves and fruit and nuts and anything that wasnt securely attached to the tree to fall, only to be snapped up by crocodiles below as soon as they hit the water, who did not care what fell in their jaws.

"Welcome back to your homeland!" Gustave hissed again, turning around to ram the tree again, hitting the tree on his way with his tail as he did so.

Kyra dug her claws into the tree's branches tightly, being an expert tree-climber, and having dealt with her fair share of vibrations trying to shake her loose. "Hey, not everyone up here is a native, ever see a lioness with a silver pelt? We're every color of the rainbow, where I come from up north!" She shouted down at them. Shouting at things made her look and feel rather stupid and silly, but at the same time, it helped ease up the tension of this issue. It didn't matter how the crocodiles responded to her statements, if they were amused, angered, or decided to shoot something insulting back at her.

She started to run along the branches, clearly unhindered by the constant slamming at the tree trunks. She stopped when she was in a safe spot in another tree. "Come on, guys, hurry, keep your grip!" She yelled.

It was hard for the others to keep their grip, namely Magir. They however pulled through to where Kyra was. Saber and Var first. Then they heard a shriek from behind. Magir had slipped, hanging on the branches with her forepaws.

"Magir!" Taru shouted as he turned around to save her. The snapping of the jaws just below her scared her. She pulled her paws up, trying hard to avoid it all. Taru finally managed to pull her up. The two then quickly made it to the safe spot.

"Are you alright?" Taru asked her.

"I'm..." Magir couldn't speak. She was too busy processing what was happening. Suddenly the voice appeared in Var's head again.

"To the right and down the gully" it spoke. Var looked over, seeing an opening in the leaves. Very thick branches swooped in a curve and lead into a cluster if leaf-less, dead trees that suffered overwatering.

"This way!" Var said leading them. Saber hesitated, looking at Gustave. He knew he'd seen this one before.

"You!" Saber snapped, his eyes narrowing.

"That's right, me, me, me." Gustave said, almost hysterical at the sight of Magir falling. "And now, you." Gustave said, a crocodile smile forming on his features as he disappeared under the water, once again exploding out from under the lions, stopping just short of grabbing one of them by the tails. He was toying with them.

Gustave, once again back into the water, followed where the lions were moving with his eyes. No, he would toy with his prey before killing them. Make them believe they were safe. "Follow them out through another river, you know where that area leads." The monster told another large male, who dove under, several other reptiles following in suite. Gustave was too big to directly follow them where they were going, the density of the trees would make it hard for him to maneuver. However, the smaller males, even if they were fifteen or sixteen feet, would be able to follow. "Follow them." Gustave instructed. "Stay under and watch. Make sure they dont see you. Kill on sight if possible. They have to come drink eventually."

Gustave looked to his left and right, before diving under the water, the remaining crocodiles doing so after him.

Silence once again ruled the night.

The lions however, were still not safe.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptyMon Apr 14, 2014 11:26 pm

As they kept moving along the trees, Kyra's ears lowered, and she spoke in a hushed voice, "We need to get to where the water is shallow, only the smallest of crocodiles could live comfortably. It doesn't matter if the area is wet, we just need to make it so they can't come up and grab us." She said, now lifting her tail high up so that it didn't dangle down for some eager reptile to leap up and snatch. Her claws dug deep into the tree limb, "I think I'm starting to like Aina a lot more than I did originally, here." She said. She slowly proceeded forward, careful to choose limbs that were far thicker than what she needed to travel, so that the heavier, or less-experienced members of the group would be able to follow with ease. If not for her appearance, one would have mistaken her for a leopard, for she was quite adept, and it was increasingly important as a skill, because they couldn't afford to be on the ground unless it was higher-up.

A short distance away, a small face appeared in the water, red eyes blinking as they watched the proceedings. The lions had successfully eluded the bigger crocodiles, but they were still being followed by multiple larger males, though none as big as their leader. Aina's jaws opened slightly in a kind of toothy, amused grin, and she didn't make any sounds. She swam close to the roots of the trees, where it would be risky for anyone to come after her, lest they get their necks tangled in them. With her small size, Aina had a razor-sharp edge for both speed and maneuverability, though at the cost of strength and power. It didn't matter to her, though, because the simple fact was that crocodiles needed air, and if they went after her and got stuck in the roots, failing to escape, they would drown, just like anything else. It just took a long, excruciatingly slow period of time for them to lose all their air, since holding their breath was a specialty.

Aina disappeared without the slightest ripple, and swiftly made her way, like a small arrow, in the direction the lions were heading in.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptyTue Apr 15, 2014 12:13 am

The group stopped as a cliff protruded from the waters. Var saw it as a perfect gift from fate. His eyes widened, almost to the point of them popping out. "This way! Hurry!" He shouted, blasting through the branches. His mane was soaking wet and weighing him down. He almost fell a few times at the pace he was in, but eventually made it to the branch that stopped. A cliff stood just in front of him. Then he heard that strange voice again.

"Will you take the risk of your friends failing you?"

Var looked back at the others. Taru was trying to help Magir along, who was failing miserably to keep up. Her paws kept a slipping. Had Taru not been at her side, she'd be dead ten times over. Taru looked back at the cliff and saw the shadowy form of a black leaped standing on it... Dalmaa. His form was not obscured at all this time. His black pelt was even blacker than Kavis' and his eyes a deep glowing red. His tail seemed to erode like a black flame that spat smog. His sharp and powerful shoulders seemed to jut out in a pleased way. His ears down, but a smile on his face. He was utterly horrendous and wretched to look at, but at the same time he was rather cute. Rather handsome. His pupils disappeared, leaving ominous scarlet pools. He now spoke in a depraved, warped voice.

"WILL YOU TAKE THE CHANCE?"

Var's eyes squeezed shut as he tried to think. Then it was settled. He knew what he had to do. He jumped... Dalmaa let out a loud roar as Var flew into him, the spirit then tore open into many bats that fled. Several scratched Var, almost biting him, but the lion pulled away in time and fell on his side onto the cliff. Soon Magir and Taru had made it onto the cliff, Magir stumbling and falling on her face. Taru got to his paws, but barely.

He looked at the others. "Is everyone ok?" He asked. Saber had made it onto the cliff last and was one of the only ones standing up. He looked back over at the waters, where the crocodiles were staring up at him.

"Come get us now you scaly filth!" He roared down at them. They'd have no chance of getting onto the small cliff, thus he was not afraid to provoke them now.

Magir got up and looked over, her ears drooping and a grimace on her face. She shook her head and drifted off to sit in a group of bushes, unseen by the rest of the group.

Kyra quickly-regained her footing, and looked over at where Magir had vanished. She looked over her shoulder, checking to see if everyone was okay, and when she saw that no members of the group were missing, she turned and padded over, stopping a short distance away from the bushes. "Magir, are you okay?" She asked, after a pause. She knew the whole incident had been incredibly rough on her. From what Snake's parents had said, the lioness also seemed to see the worst in herself, Kyra suspected perhaps Magir was silently cursing herself, but she wasn't sure what reason. Perhaps she felt useless, or perhaps she thought she was endangering Taru when the powerful male stopped each time to help her. Kyra didn't think anyone else, her included, saw the situation that way, but who knew what Magir thought of the matter? Kyra had said she would be there, and she meant what she said.

_______________________________________________________________________________

After a certain period of time, resting and eating, Shadow rose back up to his paws, and flicked his tail. Coglon looked up at the black lion, who, in intensely bright light, seemed to be just an incredibly dark shade of chocolate brown. The truth was, though, that Shadow was certainly a black lion, and the fact was that, unlike Kavis, who seemed to only wander around out in the open at night, Shadow could be active at any time, day or night. It wasn't uncommon for darker-colored pelts to have their colors fade in sunlight, and black fur was especially likely to do so. It was rare for any creature with black fur not to find its pelt fading to a brownish color in bright sun, exceedingly so, and Shadow was one whose fur faded in the typical fashion.

"Are we leaving?" Coglon asked.

The reply was a simple, short nod, and the two turned, proceeding once more towards the mountains in the northeast, enshrouded with mist in the distance.

Magir didn't respond for a moment, before suddenly a faint voice came from the bushes. "I'm fine, Kyra. Thank you." She barely gave anything else. Magir laid her head down and simply waited.

A dark voice came from the tree line on the cliff. It was one that Var knew, but had only heard a few times.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't our feeble minded in the right like friends..." he said as he stepped into the light. As he came into the light, his eyes seemed to have a strange flare in them. An almost yellowish radiance came from the pupils, and that had never happened before. It looked almost like the red was just a mask over his real eyes.

Var got to his feet, growling at Kavis. Saber and Taru both rose, all feeling foolishly confident with their odds. Kavis may have chuckled. "Don't flatter yourselves, little ones. But you need not worry, I am only here to congratulate you on coming so far. You have done well..."

"Was there ever any doubt?!" Var growled.

Kavis looked at him. "Much. But I will not deny that you surprise me, Var of Kenya" he said turning away and looking off at the flooded lands.

Kyra's ears flattened when she saw Kavis, "How exactly is it that you always show up out of nowhere? Do the crocodiles just not notice you, or did you make some sort of deal with them?" It had been bugging her for some time now. How was Kavis capable of traveling and keeping up with the lions, without ever being noticed, if not by the group, but by the crocodiles that eagerly awaited for the mistake that would mean a large meal for them? Kyra found it hard to get her mind around, a lion as big and unusual as Kavis going unnoticed. He really wasn't the average creature one was used to encountering, nor could she quite understand what his mentality was. What game was he playing at?

Kavis chuckled. "I am strong and fast. My legs are powerful. I can climb trees far better than even you, Kyra. And my fur is pitch black, and I can hide in the shadows far better. Crocodiles do not have powerful senses like you and I, but nevertheless they are capable of finding what they look for. Gustave is a crocodile my family is familiar with, having been around here before. I know his tactics. Kyra, do not be blind. There ways for everything. And did you expect anything less?" he said with what may have passed for a smile. He looked through the brush. "My hyenas though, could not cross through the swamp. But there is a piece of land that stretches over here that the crocodiles cannot reach. They will be here soon enough."

"You're alone?" Var said, feeling adrenaline rush through him.

"Stop" Taru whispered to him. "He's big enough, he can take us all on himself..."

Kavis had obviously heard and finally cracked a wide grin. It was perhaps one of the only times anyone would see Kavis show emotions. Usually his eyes showed his emotion completely, either by the way they were bent or the simple light within. Kavis stood in the light, his silhouette outlined in light.

Kyra considered saying something, but a hiss from down the ridge cut her off, and she ran over and looked over the edge, to see a pair of red eyes staring up at the group. "That would be a lie, Blackfur." She hissed, the movement of her tail not creating even the slightest ripple in the water. "You lions may think you are invisible, but perhaps the reason you go unnoticed is because other things override the sounds of your footprints, and the smell of your bodies. Perhaps we don't look your way because of these things, but to say our senses are inferior is a lie." The reptilian eyes narrowed, "We can hear from afar the calls of our hatchlings, when they are still sealed within their eggs, and your footprints are far louder than that, and even a hyena could not hear something so faint unless it was right upon the noise." She raised her snout from the water, "Only a crocodile that lives in a large group, as those greater in size than I do, would fail to notice you, from all the disturbances produced by the others. A solitary creature like me simply ignores, for what you do is of no concern to me." Her snout lowered a bit, "Our smell is as every bit as good as yours, and our eyes can see in murky water and in darkness, they are far sharper than a lion's, so it would seem, to me, that you kitties do not teach your cubs the things they should know. Stupidity breeds stupidity, so make a mental note of what I have just said, for I am an honest crocodile, when no other can be trusted to say the full truth."

Kyra's ears lowered a bit, as she looked down at the tiny crocodile, "Yikes, I would have thought you would have been rooting for Kavis, considering you were threatening to eat us, earlier."

Aina hissed, "Blackfur wasn't told properly the abilities of crocodiles, so I simply corrected the error. I will not be mocked as being lesser because of what I am. A lion is seen as an ultimate predator, but if crocodiles are simply big reptiles with a strong bite, that's not enough for us to have a similar claim. Our senses, like yours, are developed to kill."

Kyra looked unamused, "You're openly admitting that."

Aina blinked her eyes, "Yes, I am, because I am the only crocodile like me."

PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptyFri Apr 18, 2014 1:27 am

Kavis stepped over to the edge to look at Aina. As he stood next to Kyra, once would see he was orders bigger than her, or any of the others for that matter. He looked down at Aina, in an unsatisfied way.

"I have been around many crocodiles. Stupid ones. Perhaps they simply didn't use their senses or perhaps you're lying, either way... I know what I am doing. And you're awfully bold for such a tiny crocodile... I suppose I could fix that for you..."

Kavis quickly hit Kyra with his flank, knocking her over the cliff and pulling her to hang by her paws over the ledge. He kept his claws in place, to keep her from struggling. His paws were enormously powerful and she may have been nailed to the cliff.

Var and Taru sprang into action, Taru trying to knock Kavis down and Var trying to rescue Kyra. Eventually Kavis simply let go and Var pulled Kyra up before she could fall. Taru kept trying to push Kavis over, but his massive body was too powerful for him to topple. Kavis quickly took a single paw and knocked Taru clean off his feet. Kavis' mane blew in the wind.

"Please, don't amuse me" Kavis said. "You're love for each other makes you weak."

"We'd be weak if we let you kill one of our own, and reduce our number."

Magir at this point had come from the bushes. Kavis was about to say something, but his head bolted to her. His eyes seemed to have widened. Magir looked uneasy and had an awkward look on her face. One that Kyra would know meant 'he knows'.

Saber simply sat and watched. Kavis barely acknowledged him. "Now," he said turning back to the others, "where are all of you going? It wouldn't be back to the Ridge Pride camp would it?"

"How did you know?" Magir asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" Kavis asked. "I know the very thing you are after. I know the thing you seek... And I will get there first..."

Aina, seemingly unfazed by the Kavis' threats, or the displays of strength he had performed, laughed from where she was floating in the water, "Good luck to both of you, but if you want any help getting there, Blackfur, you're on your own." She said, her red eyes gleaming, "I do not see you as weak, far from it, but I do not intend to come out of the water so that you might harm me." Her eyes narrowed, "Any lion who is clever will stay out of waters where a crocodile lurks, likewise." She looked over at where Kyra was recovering from the near-death fall, "Besides-" She added, "Any crocodile who can't fling a good insult, or make a good threat, isn't worth her salt."

Kyra flattened her ears, "What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, somehow offended.

Aina simply laughed at this, "Though I may degrade, threaten, and abuse you, you lions are entertaining to watch. As for you, Blue Eyes, you're stubborn and spirited, you don't go pussyfooting around, and you're one of the few cats I think I can say I've taken a shine to. I'll keep helping your float, because I like you, but my previous threats still remain. You make an error, and you're lunch." With this, she dove beneath the surface, and vanished.

(A float is the proper term for referring to a group of crocodiles.)

Kavis chuckled as he watched Aina disappear. "I don't need your help, little one. You are a lone crocodile. You are small, you are tiny, you are weak." He said. Then he looked at the others.

"I suppose I'll be leaving now. Anything else you wish to include?"

"Get out of here" Var said angrily.

"As you wish" Kavis said. He moved quickly and stepped back into the shadows. The whoops of hyena growing louder and louder.

Var came up to Kyra. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry... I'll never let him touch you again."

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 EmptySat Apr 19, 2014 2:41 pm

Gustave finally moved.

He was so large, he had gone unnoticed, disguising himself as part of a the riverbank, covering himself up with mud as to avoid being sensed with the lions, or even Aina for that matter. Gustave was a very smart, very clever, and very old crocodile.

But he was not amused by Kavis.

"Kavis is nothing but a bully of a cat, who seems to have tricked himself into thinking his family knows me." The giant finally said speaking up for the first time. He had no intent of hurting the lions this time, he had killed a hippo on his journey here and was in no mood to waste energy on a few animals that were too small for him anyway. He killed for fun, but these lions were far to defenseless for that.

"He preaches like he and his family know my tactics, or me..." The great reptile said. "But you can ask him how many of that family still breaths this day and he shall fall silent." The great beast began moving closer, wading through the river Aina has been swimming in he was so large. "I've outlived his parents, and their parents alike... If not by age than by other, more messy means."

The monster looked to where Aina once floated in the water, and rumbled. "Clever one, she is. I was luckier with my genes than she is, but she is no less dangerous than I. Kavis' arrogance causes him to define strength as physical force. But we..." He said, his old eyes scanning the lions before him. "We know otherwise..."

"Kavis is a coward. Much like you lions but in a different way. You are cowardly in a fairly intelligent manner. You ran from the crocodiles below rather than somehow attempting to fight. Kavis makes empty threats like a human who's smaller than his fellow people. You go toe to toe with any crocodile who's lived a few years and you will know you will not come out of it the way you came in. Kavis has never once fought a crocodile." The great being said, looking less like the monster that had been trying to kill them the night before and more like a huge calm and docile reptile.

"I hate bullies." He put simply and preemptively, not allowing the lions to ask why he wasnt trying to kill them. "And I'm not hungry."

Crocodiles as big as he was were temperamental at times. This was a prime example of that. However Aina's words still held true on crocodiles and how much salt they're worth. He was huge. Three times the size of Kavis an a few thousand heavier. He was a living, breathing threat. He didnt have say a word in order to be intimidating, although when he did it helped. He was in water too shallow to be of a real threat. The lions were too fast and agile for him here, but alike he was to big and too armored for them to hurt.

"Someone will die on your journey, wherever it is you're going too," Gustave prophesied. "Whether it be Kavis, or you Saber, or any of you whatever your names may be." Gustave said, looking to the lion he had met before. "Oh and Saber, shut the hell up, or next time I wont be so kind to you. I havent seen you bath in water for a while, who are you to call us filth?" He great creature turned around it's flank to the lions, who could now see the many battle scars left by hippos, or bullets or spears. "I dont know who will die, but one lion will make their journey into the afterlife."

"Oh, and before I go, there was a lion sent by someone named Jali last year, just before the drought," Gustave began, turning his head to look at the lions. "Made a deal with them in order to restore their water for some time. Any of you know them, or are they dead? Because they owe me a favor of my choice that I'd like to call in."

Kyra's ears lowered, and she turned and looked around at the group with her, looking completely confused, "Uh, Jali's still alive," She said, responding to the big crocodile, "But I didn't know he made a deal like that." She looked at Var, then Saber, and finally, Taru. "Taru, do you think you could..." She drifted off, but it was clear she wanted him to explain how this deal came to be. She then glanced at Var, "Sorry, Var, I'm fine, but I've been beaten up before. It's one thing to be attacked by a lion, it's another to make a deal with a crocodile. They're not stupid, which is why it's dangerous in the first place."

Taru stepped forward. "I was the one who was sent. Jali is my brother... What do you want?" he asked hotly. The breeze blew through his mane a bit. He took a glance to Var.

Finally a noise came from behind. It was Scar, trampling onto the cliff by some branches. "Would it have killed you to wait on me?" she asked.

Var looked to Kyra, giving a deep sigh of relief. He whispered, "imagine what would have happened if she was here while Kavis was..."

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 28 Empty

"I want you to kill Kavis, and I want you to break him before you do so."

The words were haunting to listen to. When Gustave had taken an IOU in the past, he had ment it. He wanted to make an example of Kavis to any who 'knew him'. Gustave was not one that you crossed. A lion agreed to him blindly to his IOU ideal, without any idea on what the premises would be if he called it in.

Crocodiles were clever, and would take every advantage they could get. Gustave was no exception.

"And if you dont hold true to this promise... I'll kill every one of you as slowly as I can."

And with that the monster waded off, eventually reaching deeper water, and disappeared.

The deal was set, the game was ready.

Now he would lay back and watch the players as an intangible game master. If Kavis lived, they all died by the lions hand or his own, and if Kavis died, then one less name on his blacklist. Blood will be shed, no matter the situation.

He couldnt loose.

Taru looked at Var. "That is your job, Var. Not mine." He said. His war twitched nervously and Var have a solemn glance around the group and nodded.
"What happened?" Scar asked. Bar shook his head, dismissing her.

"We need to move" said Taru. "Does anyone see a way beyond here?"
"Kavis said that there was a bit of land that stretched this way," Saber said,

Kyra's ears flicked, "Kavis also said that there was a group of his hyenas heading along that way. If there's no other option, we're going to have to take that path, but chances are, we'll have to fight. A lone hyena, we can handle, but if there's a large number of them, that could be trouble." Her eyes narrowed, a sudden flash of anger appearing, "In all honesty, I agree with the big crocodile. Kavis, for all this 'Dark King' nonsense, is a bully. Why else would he show up like this, not fight unless we attacked first, and fling us around like we didn't weigh a thing?" A growl rose in her throat, "I disgust myself in saying this, but he deserves to learn a lesson, and he will. I don't know when, but someday, he's going to learn how horrible it feels to be powerless and at the mercy of his enemies. People call me proud? Kavis gives that word a whole new definition." In truth, Kyra was mostly wound up because Kavis had tried to toss her off the cliff, it was reasonable to be furious, but the scary thing was that Kyra seemed to be making almost something of a promise. She seemed to be making a vow that she would see Kavis lying helpless someday. It was horrifying for everyone, her included, because the simple fact was that Kyra wasn't the kind of person who felt merciful for someone who showed no regrets about evil deeds. For people who were truly upset over what they did, Kyra felt deep compassion, but as far as she was concerned, Kavis did not seem to feel any sort of emotion at all. Kyra knew her brother Coglon likewise didn't seem to show emotion, but if one searched, they could find the lion within.

Kyra didn't know if there was a true lion inside of Kavis, and by this point, she wondered if she wanted to know if there was one at all.

__________________________________________________________________

Continuing in their travels, Shadow and Coglon finally reached what appeared to be the base of the misty mountains, and they both started to climb, much of the world obscured in a cool fog that only allowed sight for a certain distance where people directly looked. Vision was limited, and one had the distinct feeling that these mists held a great secret, there was a mysterious aura about the place. If one listened, they found that the only noise to be heard was the wind, brushing through the foliage. There did not appear to be any birds or animals in the area, and people felt as though they were entering a place that would otherwise be barred to them. There was something strange about these mountains, and just as enigmatic as the Great Healers. People had the distinct feeling that something was swirling around them as they moved, there, but unseen. Strange power was residing here.

Magir stepped up to speak. "We have to take into consideration that he's Dalmaa's puppet, so it's not exactly his fault he's like this."

"You're defending him?" Saber asked with an unbelieving glint in his eyes. He tilted his head to the side, Magir feeling a twinge of embarrassment after she spoke, and it was obvious on her face.

"Well, I know more about Kavis than most of you."

Var looked at her. "Why didn't you tell us this then?" he asked. Taru ha an irritated face which Magir seemed to find offending and began backing away.

"I'm, I'm sorry. I just--"

"That's information you cannot withhold, Magir!" Taru said. "That could have helped us!"

"I'm sorry..." Magir said, beginning to turn away.

"Hey, don't leave. Tell us what you know" Saber said. Magir looked back at them nervously.

"I'm sorry, I just don't want to talk about it."

"Are you se--" Taru began, but was cut off by Var.

"Just let her go" he said. Taru and Saber both gave objective glances, Magir slid away while nobody was looking at her, hiding in some brush. Var sighed. "She'll have to tell us eventually, but obviously now is not the time. Later, later. Give her a chance to later. Now, let's go."

The group began moving. Var walked alongside Kyra in the front, following were Taru, Saber, and Scar. Magir walked in the very back. Var looked at Kyra. "What do you think she knows?" he whispered.

Kyra kept her voice low, so nobody else would hear, mostly because what Var wanted to discuss wasn't the kind of thing that was said aloud, "I don't know, Var, but I honestly think everyone should be nicer to Magir. Everybody has a reason for what they do, and regardless if anyone believes me or not, I'm good at telling certain things about others. There could be any number of reasons for why Magir wouldn't tell us about Kavis, or why she defended him. I personally don't care for Kavis, unless some event tells me otherwise, but overall, Magir isn't a bad lioness, and she shouldn't be treated like she is." Her ear twitched slightly as they proceeded along, "You should be able to take one look at someone, and realize if there's something that happened in the past that made them suffer. You can see it in the way they carry themselves, and how they act. Magir punishes herself for perceived wrongs, worse than we ever could, so why is everyone making it worse?"
