The Pride Days (OOC)

The winds blew throughout the yellow plains. A lion slithers in the tall grasses. It was evening and the sky was darkening, it was raining... A few Gazelle grazed upon the grass just about ten meters away. It was at that moment when Dyna shot forward at one of them. She pounced into the air as the prey began to scatter. Using her great and powerful legs she finally caught it but was just as soon swiped away. Something tackled her. A Hyena held her against the ground with yellow slime oozing from its grotesque maw. Three more Hyenas emerged from the bushes along the trees. They found her to be quite tasty looking.

"What are you doing out here, so far into our territory?" the leader who was walking in a circle around Dyna and her catcher. She had a scar on her right eye and this same eye had a blue film over it. She had snaggletooth and a long tongue that flickered from her lips. Her ears were long and pointy and her nose--keen with smell.

"You know this belongs to Ridge Pride!" Dyna shouted.

"These lands belong to King Saber! You have no right to hunt here!"

"These plains have never belonged to your boss a day in his life! The Spirits as my witness, he will never have them!" Dyna protested, kicking the Hyena off of her and getting up. This leader Hyena was a fearsome warrior named Scarfang. She and the Hyenas had devoted their entire gang to some fellow from the River Pride called Saber. He was said to have overthrown the old leader of River Pride, Jabus. He's assembled Hyena patrols in the farthest reaches of Kenya. They claim that the territory along the river belong to River Pride. This is wrong, only a small portion of territory by the river belongs to River Pride.

"Spirits know indeed that you are trespassing! This act of aggression must be met with punishment equal to the severity of this situation. You are going to his majesty, King Saber!" Scarfang laughed. "Come on!"
The Hyenas closely surrounded Dyna and pushed her along the plains towards the river...

Welcome to The Pride Days! This is an RP in which you will enter any animal that lies in Africa, Kenya to be precise. I highly recommend you enter either Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, or other large cats of that family--or Hyenas, Crocodiles, Elephants, etc. Just don't enter as something that would be weak or could not defend itself. Survival is a vital part of this RP.

We'll go through several antagonists and plots, the first one involves a jealous King Saber, leader of he notorious River Pride. He now has the Hyenas at his command, they've agreed to obey him in return for half of the food the Pride makes. Lately many of the Ridge Pride members have gone missing and he leader, King Star is becoming worried.

The camp surrounds an extremely large baobab tree, and the location is protected by dense thickets of Jasminum abyssinicum Jasmine bushes, and spiny pyracantha bushes, which conceal the cheetah's scent, and also prove difficult barriers. Among prides, the Skywalk Pride's home is a fortress.

Location: On top of a large hill with a strange, shiny black boulder in the center. A spring creates a river and comes from a cave in the mountain. The hill has a large amount of black nightshade plants growing around it, a plant with extremely toxic black berries that grow in clumps. There is also multiple African Juniper trees that have a very dark green coloration, much like the thick underbrush. The overall appearance gives the area a dark, intimidating aura that wards off enemies, and the top of the hill cannot be seen through the trees, concealing the camp. However, those sitting on the hill can see the entire area around it.

Hey, Grox, noticed an issue. I had a bit of a liking for hyenas a while back, so I researched them, and Hyenas are not, in any way, related to big cats, or dogs. They all belong in the order Carnivora, but that's it. Also, Males aren't dominant at all, Hyenas are Matriarchial, meaning females grow much larger than males, and are considered dominant.

I know this is a fantasy RP, and I may join with a hyena, but it appears you didn't research the animals in it, and it's bugging me severely.

I've not done much research on Hyenas, most of the research I have ever done in big cats has been towards Lions.

I find that disappointing, I was looking for a really scary Hyena to work with. If it pleases you, I'll remove it.

Well, I do want to join, but it's just that I'm a really big fan of big cats, and hyenas, so I do a lot of research on all the species mentioned. It's okay to have a mean hyena leader. It won't be any less brutal if it's female. I can help with making the species more realistic without disturbing the fantasy part.

The fact is that I want to help bring in the cheetah and hyena groups who are 'good guys' so to speak, but are more isolated, so that you have to gain their favor. Hyenas aren't always bad guys, I've watched nature videos and truly felt sorry for them after lionesses bullied them while scavenging. Cheetahs can work together to bring down some pretty dangerous opponents, too.

You can remove the hyena leader, or you can just change it to female, that would actually fix the whole problem.

I might actually join as a crocodile, considering that they are THE predators of Africa (Eating virtually everything if given the chance, they even grab elephant trunks, although this is rare)


Perhaps I could take the form of a large croc controlling an important river system, which could lead to a water shortage everywhere else... Negotiating with a twenty foot three thousand pound crocodile would be quite interesting, especially when it's not afraid to attack other predators.

A female would work too I guess.

And not all of the Hyenas are bad, just the one gang that became associated with River Pride.

Well, a normal Nile Crocodile would actually fit the RP perfectly. Hyenas, despite swimming to hide or obtain food, will carefully avoid crocodile infested waters. I am sure the same applies for most cheetahs and lions. A crocodile is already exceedingly powerful compared to the three species we're supposed to use to create characters, a cheetah can't outrun a crocodile once it's been caught, and neither can a lion or hyena. If it drags them into the water, they're doomed, most likely.

A normal crocodile as a result is already exceedingly strong compared to others, and if you make it a 30-40 ft. long dinosaur, going against creatures a measly 5' long, well, that's OP, because there's no way any fight will be fair. If a crocodile like that allied, we know that whoever he is with, that team is going to win. At least with normal ones there's a slim chance of survival.

Name: Gustave

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown, Old enough to be an adult, but young enough to be a healthy and agressive male.

Species: Nile Crocodile

Personality: Gustave is a very intelligent, very aggressive crocodile that has taken up the position as 'alpha' of the river. Crocodiles, although they are no pack or army, are a very prominent feature of the African waterways. Gustave gives an order to any specific crocodile, and if that croc doesnt follow his or her order, he or she could very well be killed, eaten, or both. Because of Gustave's half-leadership, crocodiles have quite literally taken the river for their own. Nothing gets a drink without them knowing, and if you do, better be quick, a croc might just be hungry.

Despite his rather tyrannical persona, Gustave is also a rather negotiable crocodile. He wont send a crocodile that caring for her eggs out to go or do anything.

Gustave has alias with several reptiles of Kenya, namely the Monitor Lizards and snakes that inhabit the savannas.

Appearance: Every once in a while, there is a crocodile that is larger than the others. Larger than the already massive sixteen footers. Gustave is that crocodile. At a length of twenty three feet long, and nearly a ton and a quarter, making Gustave a monster of a crocodile.

"When I first saw him, I thought he was just a massive piece of the sand bank, but sure enough, when he listed his head, I was sure I wasn't looking at any normal crocodile."

History: "He is rumoured to have consumed as many as 300 humans from the banks of the Ruzizi River and the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika. Though that number is difficult to prove, Gustave has attained a near-mythical status and is greatly feared by people in the region. Scientists and herpetologists who have studied Gustave claim that his uncommon size and weight impedes the crocodile's ability to hunt the species' usual, agile prey such as fish, antelope and zebra, forcing him to attack larger animals such as hippopotamus, large wildebeest and, to some extent, humans. According to a popular local warning, he is said to hunt and leave his victims' corpses uneaten." -Excerpt from Gustave's Wiki

Other: Gustave is a real crocodile. He is not just a creature I came up with. Gustave is a man-eater. So stay out of the water...

I finished making my clan and my character. Please note she still has the pelt of a juvenile hyena, so she doesn't just look like a normal one.

Location: In a green scrubland area, past a small stream. Clan borders are indicated by the scent of burned soap.

Name: Zanita
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Species: Hyena

Personality: Zanita, like all hyenas, is an opportunistic hunter, with a powerful digestive tract and set of jaws that allows her to digest and obtain nutrition from any form of animal matter, even bones. However, compared to everyone else in her clan, Zanita is incredibly brave. She is not afraid of scavenging leftover carrion from lions or other predators, and does not appear to fear punishment if she is caught in another predator’s territory. She is so brave (or reckless, as her friends might say), that she will even go near crocodile infested waters. It is this courage (or rashness), coupled with being the largest female that has made Zanita the leader of the Brushland Clan. However, despite being considered to lack common sense, Zanita is well aware that she is doing dangerous stunts. However, she is capable of avoiding lions, and cheetahs, and isn’t afraid to fight them if they try to chase her away. She is also able to locate crocodiles hidden in rivers and lakes, allowing her to stay out of striking distance.

Zanita and her clan are also not hostile towards prides of lions or cheetahs, contrary to the popular belief that the species are mortal enemies. Zanita is often willing to negotiate with lions and cheetahs, without violence being involved, on the grounds that if the hyenas were permitted to eat whatever the other species does not, then there would be no need for fighting in the first place. She possesses a great respect for other creatures, due to the simple fact that life is easier without arguing amongst one another. Although her clan is territorial, they do not try to invade the territory of others. They typically keep themselves and avoid political squabbles.

Appearance: Zanita is a large spotted hyena that always towers over other hyenas, regardless of if they are from her clan or not. She is about 65.3 in. In body length, and weighs 153 lbs. She can run for hours without tiring at a constant speed of 60 km/hr. making her possess greater endurance than that of a crocodile, lion, or cheetah. Unusually, her fur is much different in coloration compared to other hyenas, even those of her clan, who are known to be a greyish color, rather than brown. Zanita’s fur is incredibly dark, to the point that her spots are almost invisible, her pelt being nearly black in coloration. This makes her stand out to others, unfortunately, which is bad in a group that tries to match in appearance. Aside from this, her hindquarters are rounded, like all hyenas, making it difficult for pouncing predators to keep their grip, and her ears are highly sensitive, allowing her to detect sounds from distances of up to 6 miles away. She also has a strong sense of smell, but typically uses her powerful eyes to track prey. Despite having excellent night vision, Zanita and her clan hunt regardless of the time of day, but night remains the preferred time.

History: Zanita was originally born a very weak young cub, and was often thought to be the runt of the litter, often failing to fight her siblings or other cubs for dominance. For the longest time, the Brushland Clan was betting on how long it would be before the young hyena died. However, at the age of three months, when the other cubs began losing their black coats that are present at birth, Zanita became significantly different. She stopped feeding on milk, unlike the others, in preference of solid food (As she was capable at such an age of eating it), and did not appear to change collar. She began to rapidly grow, and quickly became the most powerful, stand-alone hyena in the clan. She later became the clan Alpha, and has remains so since then.

Other: Zanita is easily identified as the clan leader, due to possessing a black pelt that is normally present only in juvenile hyenas, and her large size.

Name: Waceera

Gender: Female

Age: Six years

Species: Serval

Personality: A loner quite literally by nature, Waceera instinctively mistrusts any creature capable of besting her in a fight. She does not, however, loathe the company of other creatures, and enjoys travelling with other animals that are either small or willing. This number being very small, Waceera has grown to be quite social, even in the least appropriate of circumstances, though she rarely dares to intrude upon the territory of large prides of animals. Her preferred company is the (occasionally) solemn and indifferent personalities of the African bush elephants.

Appearance: There is a reason that no white Servals have ever been documented in the wild. Small for her species, Waceera nevertheless possesses some of the longest legs of the animal kingdom. She measures barely three feet from the tip of her pointed, unmistakably feline nose to the bushy conclusion of her short tail. Her strong shoulders and slender body help her to move at great speeds through tall grassland and dense forest. Her white coloration, however – speckled with gray blots as if one had spilled a can of ink – serves her not to hunt at night, as it stands out like a beacon when struck by even the dimmest ray of moonlight. Serval, therefore, hunts most in the daytime, flattening her large ears to her skull as she creeps forward, short fur twitching in anticipation of the chase.

History: Being solitary animals, Waceera set off from her mother’s side at a fairly young age and has since been roaming in search of territory to call her own. Though she did manage to settle upon a satisfactory swath of forest some two months ago, Waceera was quickly exiled by the advance of human loggers in the area. She searches simply for a home.

Other: She’s very fast and agile, and thus would rather run than fight. This is probably why she can’t hold territory for very long.

I just want to say that hyenas are not feline nor canine in any way and are actually more related to mongooses than cats or dogs. However, they are still considered as placental mammals. Fun fact: while hyenas are known as scavengers, they also possess great intelligence and skill on the hunt. One strategy is for a single hyena to cause confusion in the herd, while the others in the pack pick off an older or weaker member and chase the rest away. [1] Disregard later texts, the Hyaenidae branch is closely related to Helogale pervula, common dwarf mongoose.

Well, I agree that there's a lot of issues with realism. I actually was a bit of a hyena fan awhile ago, so I know a lot about the species. I already mentioned the relations that hyenas weren't related to cats or dogs. They actually have acute hearing, up to six miles away, and have been proven to rival chimpanzees in intelligence regarding teamwork. They can digest bones, and have powerful jaws. Like I said, I know a lot about them and their mannerisms, and the fact that their laughing is actually used to express aggression. The females also tend to be dominant over males, which is why the hyena leader in Grox's plot is now female instead of male.

I didn't see the extra weight on Operator's sheet, though, I hardly noticed, but yeah, I've studied Nile Crocodiles, too, and they get pretty big, but don't weigh 3,000 lbs.

Oh, nothing on the sheet (though I honestly doubt the intelligence of average crocodiles), but his sudden urge to make a monster; the most powerful predator the African plains can hold. He said it himself, though not in my specific dialogue.

I dunno, really, except for my crazy death-defying hyena clan leader, I doubt anyone would go near the water if they knew a crocodile was present; to begin with, my character walks a fine line between bravery and a lack of common sense, I guess, since hyenas are pretty careful about crocodiles.

Your argument would be sound if it wasn't for the fact that Gustave is a real animal.


On your case with the weight, I probably should change that a bit. Gustave, when he was last sighted was at the very least a ton. I overdid it a bit on the weight, my mistake. However, you also haven't taken into account that a female crocodile can be 500-1100 pounds. Larger males can go upwards on 1700 pounds. The largest male Nile Crocodile sighted (Gustave) weighs a whopping 2400 pounds. You can see that, right here:

Originally, when I put a ton and a half, I made the mistake of thinking a ton was 1000 pounds. Being the idiot I can be at times, leads me to somehow think that a ton and half somehow equaled 2500 pounds.

If there is somewhat of a problem with me using not only a overly large animal, but an overly large animal that is REAL and alive today, then please do tell. Crocodiles are a creature feared by almost all animals in Africa (Excluding Elephants on most occasions), but they are in now way a super-mega-(insert the rest of the Greek alphabet here)-predator. They are reptiles, cold blooded, meaning they have a slow start, can move at a sloth's pace on land (A ton and a quarter croc isn't going anywhere fast on land), and tends to stay in the water, for a good three-fourths of it's day. I did not try and make a superpredator croc that can run around like a cheeta on land. Hippos kill three hundred people A YEAR. Gustave's killings are cumulative. Elephants kill 250, heck, BEES kill over a thousand. Maybe I should go in as a wasps nest. Surely then I will be the one you describe me as.

However, if you do provide a good case argument then I'd be glad to obligate in either revoking or editing my sheet to your liking.

Gustave being the one time rarity that he is, you're not doing a very good job convincing me whatever you're trying to convince me with. Of course, I'm SURE there are miracle gators crawling ALL ACROSS Africa. Not really. Anywho, you are completely missing the point. The problem I have is not the character you're wanting to use, it's you and your mindset.

I would think it's a matter of people not wanting to beat him. Tell me, why do elephants get so big?

The answer is to keep predators from attacking it, meaning it has no natural predators.

I can see how my mindset goes both ways, and in truth, it kind of does. The reason I want to be Gustave, is by doing that, I dont have to worry about something coming and fighting me, because I dont trust myself in a fight. It's like the king snake that looks like a coral snake. Nobody wants to go after it because nobody's quite sure if it has venom or not.

However, I can see a potential argument with my aforementioned strategy: "What if someone did come and fight you." Which would be rather one-sided.


Please, tell me, do you have any suggestions on how I should change my attitude on the character?
