The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty

Var sighed. "I don't have any idea what's been in either of their pasts. But there is no excuse for Kavis' actions. I know he's killed many. But what Gustave was wrong about, was that Kavis is a bully. Despite his tendency to throw people around, he's far more than a bully. He doesn't bully people. He toys with them. He breaks them down slowly and the ends them. That's what he's doing. Because this isn't a game, an Kavis knows what he's doing."

He looked up at the sun, which was setting. "We need to get some rest. It's been a long day. Let me ask Taru where exactly we are." He fell back to walk with Taru and asked him the question. "So where are we?"

"We're almost to the camp. It's just over that hill."

"We need to rest" said Var.

"If the camp is safe, we can rest there" said Saber. Taru gave a skeptical look. Var walked up to Kyra.

"It's just over this hill" he said. As soon as the group came to the top, they looked directly at a camp similar to their own, but far smaller and on the border of a river and a lake that it fed into.

"Well, here it is. Old home... Or what's left of it" Taru said, noticing the flooded gulches in the middle of the camp.

Kyra's ears lowered, "Goodness, it's not even really recognizable, is it? The whole place looks like it's underwater." She heaved a frustrated sigh, and tightly closed her eyes, "Okay, first question, who here can swim, and how good are you?" She opened her eyes, and scanned the water, looking at it intently. "It's a little bit murky, so we should be careful. Crocodiles can hide in water like that, but so can other things, less likely to be snakes, but tigerfish could. Normally, I would be able to spot that, but I can't."

Saber shook his head, eyeing the area. It was obvious he knew his share of spirits and life, and much about nature, now that he'd truly been enlightened. "There is nothing in the area. We are safe. This place is prowled by spirits. I can feel them. They're everywhere. But, I do not think they'll harm us. I can swim. River Pride was a group of excellent swimmers before the dragons took over."

Var shook his head. "I can't swim Kyra. Either I'll have to find some other way or you guys will have to help me. I was in an accident a long time ago, ever since then I haven't been able to truly face water."

"What happened?" asked Taru.

Var looked unwilling to speak it, but did so anyway. "It was about moon high. It was the night I met Magir. Magir was traveling with a young jackal named Yuona. We were crossing a bridge of branches, a log... It snapped. Each of us plummeted down into a river whose rapids were so fast and whose current was so furious, I had difficultly so much as keeping my head above the surface. I almost drowned. Yuona died in the end. That's when Magir took me in, until my father found me again."

"No, Magir ditched you when you were attacked by the hyenas" Saber said. "Your father found you during the attack, before you could be harmed. Don't lie."

"How do you suddenly know all of this? All of my personal experiences? I thought you were meant to tell the future, not the past."

"Anything and everything that concerns the events of Dalmaa and Snake, I know of." Snake turned to Taru. "This is your camp. Lead us."

Taru's ear twitched. He looked around for a moment almost nervously. "I don't even know where to begin looking for it, Saber."

Kyra's eyes narrowed, and she squinted down at the camp again, "If what we came here for was something sacred and irreplaceable, I would have hidden it, in a place where only the most responsible and trusted in the Pride would be permitted to go. Is there anywhere that Star didn't allow others to go? That's where he would have been keeping it, and he wouldn't have had to have been discreet about hiding something, either. Nobody would question the king of a pride unless they were very foolish. She flicked her tail, "He could have hidden it in plain sight, but I don't think so. Is there a cave where the king and queen of Sunset--er---Ridge Pride stayed, like back in Ethiopia? There might be a hidden nook or cranny somewhere, after all, caves are a bunch of rocks, who would notice another one, unless there was some distinguishing feature?"

Her tail flicked, and she shook her head, "Well, just throwing out ideas, feel free to grab any one of them, I'm not familiar with this place."

Taru nodded. "There's a royal cave, just like in Ethiopia. It's smaller though. It's over there" he said pointing with his tail to an opening in a hill, high enough so that the water did not reach it. "Dad might have kept it in there... Let's see if we can get inside."

Taru went first, followed by Saber as the two began wading into the waters, moving across the camp. Var's hairs were standing on edge as he watched. Magir stuck to whatever shallows she could find, but in the end wound up swimming too. Scar seemed to not be bothered by the fact of getting wet as she made it across to the other side. Var gulped, placing a first paw in.

Saber rolled his eyes. "Come on, already!" he rasped, but it may have been too far to hear. Var didn't pay mind. But Taru bucked Saber in the side.

Kyra, without any sort of hesitation whatsoever, waded out into the water, and took off swimming, going out so that she was a distance in front of Var, still testing the water, it seemed. Kyra's ears lowered a bit, though everybody who got wet looked sodden as their fur was soaked. "Var, if you don't hurry up and jump in, we're going to have to do what Ammon did to me when he taught me how to swim!" She didn't say what it was, but chances were it involved being roughly pushed or pulled into the water, without any sort of warning whatsoever.

Var grimaced, getting frustrated. "Well, I don't push you into your fears" he said under his breath. He slowly eased his way into the water, carefully and eventually getting in. He gritted his teeth as he made his way across, eventually pulling up to the other side. He had stopped several times along the way, trying to hold himself together. At least the water was still and nothing like the night he nearly died.

He shook his fur, the droplets of water spraying onto the world around him like rain. The moon's light reflected off his wet fur as he stood along the "shore". He looked at the others, who were also trying to dry themselves. All save for Saber, who simply let himself soak.

Var stood quietly at the mouth of the cave, looking inside. It was dark, save for the light the moon brought in, which allowed for some visibility. Taru looked on. He gave glances to the others, seeing if they were ready.

Kyra, upon getting out of the water, did a very un-lion-like thing in order to get dry. Instead of licking herself dry, which was the norm, she walked a distance away as a part of courtesy to everyone else who was taking the time to do the grooming properly, and shook herself down, slinging water onto the ground. She didn't splash anyone else, but really, cats seldom did such things to get dry. Upon doing this, her fur spiked all over the place, looking like a mess, although she paid no mind to it. She bounded over to the entrance of the cave, and looked into it, squinting, "Well, if someone lived in there, then your eyes can probably adjust to the low light." She said.

Var sighed and nodded. "Let's go on then." The group moved inside, the cold cave quickly sunk into their fur, making them shiver. Var had a lot on his mind. The overall quest was in his head, but more personal things were at work. He was wondering about Magir and Kavis. He had a horrible feeling within himself ever since Kavis managed to push Kyra over the ledge. He felt helpless now, like he couldn't protect her. He tried and tried to push the monster away, but he wouldn't budge. It gave Var a feeling that he had failed for Kyra. That he couldn't help her, should something else happen.

He stopped as his eye caught something. It was on the wall of the cave and seemed to be some sort of marking or engraving. Var eventually adjusted to the light and saw that it was some strange symbol. A circle with many snaking lines stretching into it. "Saber," Var called. Saber moved over to the symbol and began inspecting it. Var waited in man moments of silence while Saber took a good look at the symbol,

"The Black Morass. A swamp, just outside of the old River Pride camp. The stone must be there. But oddly enough, why would Star hide his prize in his enemy's hands?"

Var looked puzzled and said nothing. "We'll find out tomorrow. For now we should rest. We've had a long day and if we travel at night we're more likely to he caught by crocodiles" he said. "Taru, is it safe to sleep here?"

"It should be" he said. "But everyone should stay here at all times. No getting up in the night."

The group each found their places of rest, but fighting back the cold chills of the cave. Magir chose to curl up alone, whereas Scar and Taru slept next to each other to keep warm. Saber just a short distance behind them. Var laid down in a spot that gave him a good view of the entrance of the cave. He and Taru had agreed to sleep in shifts. In about three hours, Var would wake him. But for now things were silent.

Shebla watched as one of Mira's daughters brought in a bit of herbs and sat them down at the entrance to the medical den. Shebla smiled. "Thank you, Naledi" Shebla said.

"You're welcome, Shebla" said the cub, turning away just as Mira approached.

"Is she doing well?"

"Yes, thank you, Mira. She's been a big help to me. The herbs just keep getting lower and lower in supply. All this rain is drowning them and none are quite good to use anymore. I need as many scavengers as I can get."

"Well I'm glad she can be of assistance" Mira said. "I'll leave you be, goodnight."

"Goodnight, Mira" Shebla said a she turned away and went back to her den once more. Her sleep would hopefully give her hope.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyTue Apr 29, 2014 7:37 pm

As soon as Shebla was asleep, she was pulled from her body and transported to a place far away, high at the peak of the mountain that loomed north of the Sunset Pride's entire territory. When she arrived, Egret was already there, and the two were standing on a tall cliff face, looking down at a gigantic circular area that was nestled within a border formed of rock, although overall, the rock was somewhat lower, and more of a slope, than a straight wall. It also seemed, upon closer observation, that these sloped walls, which dipped into the center of the perfectly flat dell, much larger than the first she had seen yesterday night, were all part of a large spiral, as though the top of the mountain itself had at one point been swirling into a vortex, but was now encased in stone. Looking around, Shebla would realize that this strange place was actually the very summit of the mountain. Ammon and Seker, standing in the flat area below, could venture no higher.

Ammon looked around at the area, his eyes narrowed suspiciously, as Egret spoke, "He is suspicious, as he should be, for there is a strange energy in this place." She said. She then fell silent, allowing Shebla to look at the wide, open place where Ammon and Seker were standing. Indeed, it looked much unlike anything any lion would be familiar with. Although the rocky slopes Egret and Shebla stood on were a dark grey, as they descended to the flat center, they turned pure black, and once the flat area was reached, except around the very edges, the stone seemed to be polished, as well, so it gave off an unusual shine, like a river stone.

Around the edges of the circle, there were gigantic stone pillars made of the same stone that rose out of the ground, strange patterns and images carved into their depths, many featuring creatures that were clearly from the same time as the Ancient Spirits, which all appeared to be standing side-by-side, now, above one spot. They were standing over a large, round stone that rose out of the wall, a warped, somewhat oval-shaped opening in its face, the entrance to some sort of cave. Nobody could see inside of the cave, and yet, it beckoned. There was a strange kind of energy one could feel coming from it. There was something powerful at work, and this strange place was linked to Ammon in some way.

"Do you think we should enter, Master Ammon?" Seker asked, standing on the polished stone ground, looking up at Ammon with a touch of anxiety.

Ammon flicked his tail, "I would not be so sure, there is something strange about it. However, it seems that something led us to come here. It would be unwise to ignore such a thing." He said, eyeing the mouth of the cave, still unsure of it.

Seker hopped closer to his master, "Then we should abandon all regrets and go in. That's the only idea I think I can come up with. The way the air moves in this area makes it impossible for me to take off from here, even though one would think it would be easy to fly at this height." The vulture's feathers ruffled, "I don't like caves, to be honest, being cut off from the sky..." He drifted off.

Ammon looked at Seker, and gave a small nod, "That is understandable, but you need not fear, for as you know, I travel by night, and sleep by day. The darkness does not blind me, as it might others." He lowered himself down, allowing the vulture to hop onto his back. He rose once Seker had done so, "We will go in, just stay on my back, and you will not be lost."

Seker dipped his beak, "Yes, Master Ammon."

With this, the two slowly walked into the cave, vanishing into the darkness. With seeing this, the three spirits standing above it let out long, loud cries, a strange, eerie sound, and yet somehow strangely beautiful, as though they were shouting a battle cry, or singing. As they did so, the mists that formed them suddenly dissipated, and they vanished in a trail of vapor, which snaked its way down and slipped into the cave.

Egret's eyes narrowed, "Shebla, the energy of that cave...it's barring me. Can you feel it? You may be able to enter it, but I can't accompany you if you choose that path. Something is about to happen."

Shebla felt something odd, some unnamable feeling. She gave a nervous look at Egret and then at the cave. She carefully trekked forward. She stopped for a moment, fearfully. She wondered if she could be hurt, even in this non-physical form. She continued, going into the cave, following Ammon.

________________________________

As Kyra came to slumber, she found her own body incapable of delivering her to this new world. In her dream body, she found herself standing in a world of multicolored light. It was colored like that of autumn. Light of red, orange, and yellow swirled around. Most was red, and a bit of black fog would toss here and there.

A large black crack formed in the air, distorting the light around it into grayness. It quickly expanded into an ellipse shape. From the ellipse quickly slipped another shape. As it appeared, the ellipse was gone and replaced by the same beautiful world of light.

This new shape was one Kyra was familiar with. A very beautiful pelt of black. A slender, yet large, body. Two red eyes that were charming and gentle, but at the same time fierce and terrifying. Dalmaa stood before her, his form undistorted and not touched by his usual masks. He smiled.

"Hello Kyra," he said. For some odd reason, his voice was not hostile or filled with an evil effect, but seemed normal and gentle. "Now before you start yelling at me and trying to wake up, consider what I have to say. I kept Usizi and Isisulu from you tonight so I could talk to you. I noticed you have come close to the stone. You've now narrowed down its location. Should you ever succeed, wouldn't you like to know more about who you're trying to wound?"

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyWed Apr 30, 2014 12:25 am

Kyra's ears lowered, but, considering Dalmaa wasn't being outright hostile, and she was for the most part, as a dreamer, at the mercy of the visions shown to her by spirits, she had no choice but to interact with this spirit, which she had grown to loathe greatly. She was, however, very sensitive to things, and generally, just by looking at a creature, she could figure out things about them. The same could be said of spirits, and normally, Kyra wasn't able to understand Dalmaa, due to the various distortions that were often seen swirling around him. The first thing she immediately knew, was that regardless of how nice he might be to her in this dream, he was likely about to try and dissuade her from harming him with the compassion that she naturally felt for others, even if they had done terrible things. It was always good, however, to know the full story, because Dalmaa, being a leopard, had been alive, once, and so something had surely driven him to be the way he was now.

Kyra flicked her tail, "Though it pains me to agree with any word you say, Dalmaa, I have no choice but to listen to you. I have no desire to get into another conflict, presently, and having once been mortal, you have a story, just like anyone else." She took a deep, somewhat pained breath, "I will listen to you, but please, be aware of something about me, as well." Her gaze hardened somewhat, "You have already shown that you desire the death of my mate, and you know well by now that I care deeply about the people I love." Her tail flicked, "Perhaps I won't hate you from the bottom of my heart, perhaps I might even be reluctant to do it, for your sake, after what you have to say, but I will have to return the Stone, because the people I love are depending on me doing so."

With this, her eyes softened, and she sat back on her haunches, "Proceed with whatever visions you're going to show me, but don't force your beliefs on me. I'll listen to what you have to say, if only because you're willing to tell me."

_____________________________________________________

As Ammon and Seker proceeded into the cave, Shebla became aware that, despite the fact that it was probably very hard to see, she could always tell what was around her. It seemed, as time dragged on, that they were now descending in a counter-clockwise spiral, now down into the belly of the mountain itself. At first, the entire cave appeared to be made entirely of the same sleek, polished black stone, but as they moved in deeper, Shebla became aware of carvings, which looked silver or white against the black, a striking contrast, and far more intricate than anything she had seen before. The carvings consisted largely of the same ancient creatures from before, but also featured intricate patterns, and strange shapes that looked nothing even remotely like what she was familiar with.

As time wore on, Shebla saw that the carvings began to change, becoming more intricate, and finally, evolving from simple carved images to true carvings of the stone that made it into the shapes of strange creatures, standing out against the black wall because beneath the outer black shell there was a pure white, crystalline material instead. The strange energy felt from before kept growing ever-stronger, and the three ancient spirits that had disappeared into the cavern were nowhere to be seen. She got the feeling that whatever was at the end of this strange tunnel was getting closer, and that, if it was possible, it was waiting for Ammon's arrival. Eventually, they came to an area where the tunnel widened, forming a large semi-circle in front of a gigantic, perfectly shaped half-oval archway. At the edge of the archway, the white crystalline material that was present when the black stone had been shaved away in the process of being carved developed flecks of color, bright reds, blues, and greens.

Ammon flicked his tail, looking up at the door, while Seker perched on his back blinked in confusion. It was clear that Ammon could see the doorway, and was just as perplexed by the carving as anyone would be, although Seker was likely completely blind in all of the darkness. "Master Ammon, you have stopped, is something wrong?" The vulture asked. Ammon did not reply, and instead stared at the doorway, his eyes narrowing. "Master Ammon?" Seker pressed.

Ammon slowly flicked his tail, "The cave is made from the same black stone as the entrance, but now the carvings have been replaced now by where the stone is chipped away to create cameos from a white crystal layer underneath. We have arrived at some sort of grand entrance to a chamber that I suspect is in the very center of this mountain. The white crystal has now developed flecks of color, though how I can still see color in this darkness evades me." It seemed that Ammon could see quite well, despite the fact that the cave should have been pitch black to everyone else; being able to see color was very abnormal, regardless.

Ammon did not wait for Seker's suggestion, "I will be entering, Seker, I want you to hop off of my back and simply stay where you are. I am not abandoning you, but I have an odd feeling about this place." He flicked his tail, and lowered down, allowing the now-blind bearded vulture to slowly feel his way until he was off of his master's back. Ammon touched the tip of one toe to the vulture's foot, "I will return, soon." He said.

With this, Ammon slowly strode into the dark chamber, and found it to be an incredibly large, domed room. Inside of this room, the floor was carved with a strange pattern, with only a tiny spiral in the dead center; it looked like some sort of magical seal, but it could have just been for decoration. Around the walls of the chamber, on raised semi-circle spots that seemed to be a part of the pattern and were fused to the walls, also, were statues. Looking at them, Shebla immediately recognized three statues, which surely could only represent the three ancient spirits she had seen from earlier. The crystal that was used to make the cameos was black instead of white in this room, and was filled with a large number of colored flecks.

The statues that represented the ancient spirits, it seemed, were carved entirely of the strange dark crystal, pure black, but with gleaming shocks of blue, red, and green in their depths, eerily beautiful. Looking more closely, Shebla also saw that the statue of the ancient orangutan, saber-toothed cat, and eagle had blue mist swirling around their bases, and as she watched, the eyes of the statues began to glow with the same blue-white light she was familiar with, as well as the small point of light between the eyes. The statues were reacting to the presence of the spirits she was familiar with. Shebla may have expected Ammon to notice, but he had stopped before one particular statue, and now stared at it. It was the statue that stood directly opposite of the entrance, and was also on a platform that was raised higher than the others.

The statue was, unmistakably, that of a lion, sitting back on his haunches, but he looked different from any lion Shebla was familiar with. He was gigantic, as all ancient creatures seemed to be, and was so large that his head might have loomed over that of a fully-grown human, and a tall human, at that. He was far larger than any lion Shebla could ever hope to see in the world today, for as she knew, this lion's kind no longer wandered the earth. His fur was longer, and shaggier, overall, and somewhat thicker around the neck, but it couldn't be considered a true mane, although the thickness of the fur around the neck was what largely hinted that the statue was some sort of lion. This lion, it seemed, lorded over all the other creatures, for he sat on a higher pedestal, and even as a statue, looked ahead with a distant gaze.

The stone his statue was carved from was the most beautiful out of all of the statures present, for the black was filled with countless flecks of color, although green seemed completely absent. The paws and base overall of the lion's statue was numerous flecks of red, looking as though fire had been captured within it. The upper part of the lion's statue was filled with a deep, powerful blue, going downwards, as though lightning sparked within it. The statue, out of all of the ones present, gave off an aura of extreme power. As Ammon stared at it, the statue's eyes suddenly sparked to life, glowing an intensely bright blue-white, with a small point of blue-white light also placed between the eyes.

Around the room, all the eyes and points of light on the foreheads of the statues sparked to life, reacting, it seemed, to Ammon's presence.

Shebla sprang alive, being spooked by the statues. She wondered if they could see her. She knew the spirits she'd seen guiding Ammon earlier had seen her. She could only hope their intentions were peaceful. But still it scared her. As she was startled, she had shouted out "Ammon!" And had to remind herself that he couldn't hear her. She was in a dead stare at the lion-like statue, wondering exactly what was about to happen.

_______________________________

Dalmaa grinned. The light in the world began to twirl, flashing by in a fantastic manner. It would begin to make one wonder if Dalmaa really did have his own image of beauty. Quickly the environment let off a bright white light. Some strange music, much like singing and the beating of drums and the whistling of strange noises came from the light.

"Come on Kyra, lighten up. Have some fun" he said in his dark, smooth voice. He grabbed Kyra by the paw and dragged her quickly to the light. The two then darted through a vortex of light and fell downwards, as though they were leaves being shed from trees. Dalmaa was dancing in the air, oddly. Then, he looked over his shoulder and noted how far they'd fallen. Enormous, raven-like wings shot from his back, some feathers flying out as they did so. He caught Kyra in his paws and began to fly over what looked like some new world.

There were thick clouds of fog just over the little world, but soon they began to clear. Down below was something of majesty and beauty. There was a world built of light and dark, things sculpted of nothingness solidified to make something. Stars shrunk and clustered to make structures and beautiful ornaments. Crystals were dominant and glowed great magical auras. It was such a beautiful place, that mortal words could never describe it. Singing and magnificent music flowed throughout it. Dalmaa slashed a bit of fog with his tail, causing it to solidify. He placed Kyra there and sat next to her. His wings dissipated, letting black feathers she'd and slowly fade. He looked down at this world.

"We cannot enter it. But this, this is one of the many worlds that existed before yours. Look below" he said pointing. Down there were many figures. But these creatures had no real shape or form, but were simply auras of color and light that moved throughout. "I was one of those creatures..." He said. He backed away from Kyra and his form suddenly transformed into a large aura of black smog, swirling around and making loud shrieks and horrible grumbles. It then shrunk back to his usual form. "Auras however are genderless, but are usually described as female. Auras do not have parents, either. However they can have siblings. Auras are said to have no beginning, and were simply there. But their ends are yet to be discovered. Siblings are chosen however, when two Aura pair together and seem to have similarities and can get along. Even though at this point, they have no emotions or feelings. Simply instincts. But all Auras are given the power to sculpt their own fantasies, their own worlds. My 'sister' was Protheus, the spirit you so humbly surge in your endeavor."

Dalmaa gave a scowl at this, but oddly continued to smile. Everything was out of character with him at the moment. Or perhaps it was happiness he'd kept sheltered deep underneath.

"Protheus and I, both going by different names that aren't possible to speak in mortal words, came together and made a world with each other. Because siblings must share their work. Soon however, Protheus grew jealous of my work. Jealousy was a negative trait he evolved. Because once Auras make their worlds, they gain emotions and minds and imaginations."

"I do not brag when I say that my work was beautiful. Protheus and I got into fights. He won some. I won others. Eventually arguments escalated into bigger fights. Quickly Protheus tried to force me out of his world, attempting to break the ways of the Auras. But it was impossible. He was bound to me forever. But when he began to destroy my creations... I got angry. I invented something called horror. Something called sin. Something that would change his creations. Make them my own, and do harm to him. Something he wouldn't like... And it worked. I began creating scary things instead of beautiful things. I spread famine and disease. I plowed murder and madness over the minds of his mortals. I corrupted the just and shamed the mighty with dishonor. Then of course, came the day that Protheus gave me a challenge. He told me I wasn't being fair. He said that if I could go down in the form of a mortal and face all of my terrors, that he'd stop destroying my creations" Dalmaa said. He chuckled. "I did exactly that. Still listening?"

Kyra flicked one ear, "I am listening, Dalmaa, although it still seems difficult for me to wrap my mind around. I think I grasp it enough to understand the general idea, though. Powerful beings that are generally formless in all regards can create worlds, but once they do, they develop forms and such. You and Protheus were very close, and then when you made worlds, you got into fights and started destroying each others creations." Her tail flicked at the very tip, her heart still pounding from all these encounters, a bit. "Still, though, that would mean that this world currently belongs to Protheus, and that all the things that we have that we fear, like disease or suffering and fear, were introduced by you." Her ears lowered a bit, at this.

Her tail flicked, "Go on, this is a lot to take in, but I can simplify it enough to understand, for the most part."

______________________________________________________________

As the statues in the chamber reacted to Ammon's presence, the markings on the floor began to glow the same colors as their eyes. It was a seal, of some sort, although what, one couldn't entirely be sure, although chances were everyone was about to find out. The floor reacted entirely, and suddenly, beneath the markings, it was alive, a shimmering world of stars and light sparking to light in its depths, as though the stone were made of glass. One might have feared falling, and Ammon, for all the things he had bravely stood against, was startled. He stumbled back, right onto the spiral in the very center of the seal, and the stars in the floor suddenly glowed an incredible, blinding light, as a shimmering barrier of sorts materialized at the entrance of the cave, barring escape.

As Ammon stared at the leading statue in shock, a blue mist began to emit from it, and a single, gigantic paw emerged, taking one firm step out of the object, as an ancient spirit, looking much like the statue, emerged from it. All around the room, save for the three that were already awakened, began to step out of their statues and into the circle. Once they had fully emerged, the mists dissipated, and life began to form their ethereal bodies into something more solid in appearance. Fur, feathers, and skin bloomed into colors, and everything took the appearance as it had when it was alive. The only alteration, it seemed, was the glowing points of light between their eyes.

The gigantic lion, the leader of the group, had pale, creamy fur entirely, no unique color to his 'mane'. He was almost white, but not quite, and he looked at Ammon with gleaming yellow eyes that were also notably pale in color. The lion's jaws parted, and he spoke, "So after all this time in deep slumber, we have been awakened?" He asked, his voice a deep rumble. "It would seem that our foe's seal was broken much earlier than we had hoped, but as we had said, we would awaken soon after."

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyWed Apr 30, 2014 6:51 pm

Dalmaa shook his head. "There are some of my creations that Protheus failed to destroy. I created the butterfly, the dove, the eagle, the firefly, the flower. I also created lions and leopards. Protheus was so jealous of my lions... He eventually tried to claim them as his own creation. To this day he takes the shape of a lion spirit." Dalmaa went on. "But, despite this, you can't honestly blame me. But you weren't there, so I won't nag at you."

The world then faded, back into the world of autumn light again. "But let me show you what I had once brought to Earth..." He said. Suddenly, stripes of silver blended into the world and quickly took over, creating a silver vortex. Quickly the vortex faded. Kyra now stood in a world unlike her own. The ground was adorned in precious stones that glowed and glistened thousands of colors, many of these colors were ones that didn't even exist. The trees were swirling with sparkling fruits, leaves stretching out in elegant shapes. Thousands of butterflies shimmered throughout the world around. Doves fluttered in the skies far above. The sun, placed above in the sky, glowed all of the colors of the rainbow. It shone down pure iridescent light. The clouds swirled, radiating out from it in blue and violet patterns. The sky was pinkish, with flecks of dark scarlet along the ridges of the horizon. The gras below was multicolored. In some areas it was blue, others it was red, purple, green, yellow, and so on. There were large red crystalline stones that glistened and glowed, embellishing the ground. They would even change colors, some of them. Fireflies shimmered throughout this strange new world. Fantastic creatures everywhere. Some were alien and kinds that Kyra had never seen before. Enormously majestic flowers were everywhere. Colored in gorgeous fashions, they adorned nearly every other inch of the world. Some glowed, some would fly in the air with the butterflies. Beautiful willow trees grew to enormous heights. Creatures climbed on the long strands that hung off each limb.

"Willowirks" Dalmaa said. "I miss those..." He then looked at Kyra.

"I did not always look like this. I was not always this evil, depraved creature. I was once very handsome, a sight for mortals to behold. But every black tear that I shed turned me into... this..." He looked at Kyra. "Let me show you..."

He was quickly raised into the air, his fur quickly glowing an outline of scarlet. It faded to white light a his black fur began to pierce away into a flurry of light. His red eyes vanished with the light. When the light had faded, Kyra saw yet another creature of beauty. It was Dalmaa, though his fur was white and luminous. He was structured elegantly. A tuft of fur hung over his right eye. His eyes themselves were every color of the rainbow, constantly shifting in appearance. His pupils were like fire, blazing brightly pure white and outlined in a fiery color. His claws were colored much like the sun Kyra was familiar with. Bright gold and shining. His tail was fluffy and gorgeous. He had two eagle-like wings at his back. They were full of fluffy, huge, white feathers. With ever bat, fireflies emerged and swarmed all around Dalmaa. He landed back on the ground, his wings folding. The paw prints Dalmaa left in the ground shimmered pure pink. The flesh of his ears were a cute pink color. His nose was a delightful violet. It seemed everything about him was wonderful in some ways. Flowers bloomed around him wherever he walked.

He smiled such a smile that was irresistible, a smile that would charm any soul. Dalmaa was obviously at one point, a very magnetic person who people were drawn to. Or at least, the Ancient Spirits.

Shebla stood, waiting and watching. She was wondering what the spirit meant, as it spoke about its enemies. But she was just hoping they wouldn't treat Ammon barely. She watched with anxiousness, wondering if this was good for Ammon or bad for him... or if there was something much, much larger at work.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyThu May 01, 2014 12:25 am

Kyra's ears lowered, "Dalmaa, I won't lie and tell you that these things you're showing me aren't incredibly beautiful, wonderful things." She said, "However, this fight between you and Protheus, it's hurt all the things you've both created." Her tail was still, "All the creatures in the world that exist are suffering because of your conflict. Dalmaa, as of yet, even if you've created lions, you've been cruel to us, you could have taken a better approach than the one you did. When people see you, they see death and destruction and sin, all the things they fear. Anything you promise is met with the concept that you will not keep it, and people loathe what you have done."

________________________________________________________________________________

Ammon stood, crouched down and prepared to leap in any direction on the spiral that marked the center of the massive seal in the room. He bared his teeth, but said nothing, as the strange ancient lion focused his full attention upon him. The spirit stepped off of his pedestal, and slowly padded up to Ammon, looming over him, and regarding him with those strange pale yellow eyes. The spirit's eyes narrowed, "I am Relic, Leader of the Xi, and you have been Chosen." He said, the words having some clear meaning, but somehow leaving one with more questions than answers.

Ammon's teeth remained clenched, but he finally managed to speak, "Chosen for what, Spirit?" He asked.

Relic's serene gaze did not change, "The foe that was defeated and sealed away is free once more, and a new generation must now rise up and defeat them." The spirit lowered his head so that it was close to the ground, so that his gaze met Ammon's, "I hereby name you leader of the Xi, for that is why you are here." Ammon's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped open, but he could reply no more.

Suddenly, Relic lunched forward and placed his paws over Ammon's eyes, and a blinding blue-white light came from where they touched him. At the same time, all the other spirits charged in and touched the white lion as well, until the light around Ammon was so great that Shebla had to avert her eyes. She felt herself being forced out of the cave, and she could hear Ammon crying out, as though he were in great pain.

Suddenly, she was forced from her vision, and was cast from the cave, suddenly finding herself trapped in the black, circular void in which she knew the spirits had been roaming. Egret ran out of the mist, looking uncharacteristically alarmed, for a spirit, "Shebla, you have been cast from Ammon as well! He's not dead, I can sense his presence, but...I can't pinpoint where it is. I know where he is, but I cannot seem to get close!" She paced around, alarmed. "What did you see?" She asked, urgent.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyThu May 01, 2014 1:00 am

Dalmaa suddenly scowled, his face turning rotten. Thick, black tears began to pour from his face, much like oil. There was a sudden boom in the sky. The sun darkened, turning reddish. The sky turned a dark scarlet, clouds becoming black. A fierce wind swirled in the area. Dalmaa growling. He got onto a large perch, a small cliff and overlooked much of his work.

"And how can I not bring these evils on all of you when you betray me?" he said, his voice warped and evil as always. "When Protheus sucks every bit of joy and happiness from my life, blotting out all ligh, WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!"

The leaves among the trees ripped out, swirling around Kyra in a violent vortex. The trees ripped away from the wind. The shrieks of creatures and the booms and whistles of the wind in the background. Dalmaa looked back at Kyra, his new form having lost its luster appearance. His black tears quickly covered his body, turning his fur black and his eyes dark red. He was in his usual appearance now. The slender black leopard. He pounded his jet black claws into the ground, causing it to shatter like glass.

"Do you not see true beauty when you see it Kyra? Why can you not simply bask in what could have been? Why can you not understand what beauty there is? What beauty I AM? Is suffering the only way I can prove myself to Protheus? Is it the only way I can raise myself back to the heights? If that be the only way, SO BE IT!"

Bats swarmed around Kyra, vultures blackening the sky and snakes flying throughout the wind. Flies, gnats, moths, and other ugly creatures festered at every dead tree in the wasteland rising around Kyra. She stood in piles of blood-covered bones. The howls of scavengers in the distance. She caught a glimpse of a tall tree, a black one. So large it seemed impossible. The Shadingtree.

Dalmaa pounded the ground again. "WHY MUST I BE CONFINED TO SUCH TERRORS, WHY MUST I BE THE ONE TO BITE THE DUST, CHEW ON THE RUBBLE? THE RECKONING BEGINS AND WILL NOT RELENT UNTIL I'M WHAT I WAS. SO BE IT!"

The dream flashed out, horribly. Kyra was left to wake.

Shebla was trembling, looking up at Egret. She was speechless for a moment. "I--I... There were spirits in there. They came out of statues, some seal was opened. They just touched Ammon... and I was pulled out. I just heard him screaming. Egret, do you think he's okay?" she asked, with a worried look on her face.

The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyThu May 01, 2014 2:30 am

Kyra woke up with heart racing, and barely had time to stifle the scream that rose in her throat. She breathed deeply, her pulse pounding in her ears, before lowering her head to touch her cheek to a spot where the ground of the cave was cool. Her eyes shimmered, and a tear streaked down her face, "I wasn't asking you to suffer...I was asking you to stop hurting us..." She whispered, the voice faint, and wounded. Against her better judgement, she had allowed herself to feel sympathy for Dalmaa, despite the fact that to all creatures, he symbolized all the evil in the world. He was a tormented spirit, who desperately needed healing; but how could that healing come, how could he expect creatures to love him, when all he did was hurt them?

She closed her eyes tightly against the tears, "Are you so far gone that you can't understand? You're not the only one who was hurt..." Everyone who had been caught up in Dalmaa's plans had been hurt, and was suffering terribly for it. In truth, if Dalmaa was gone, then perhaps there wouldn't be so many creatures like Magir, or Saber, or even Ammon. There wouldn't be lions like her, who had lost their entire blood family to war. She just wanted everyone to be happy, couldn't anyone see that?

Why was Kyra, the lioness who was supposed to just help Var and be supportive, the one who had to look after everyone else? She was strong, but her heart was so large she was now trying to stuff the entire world inside of it. That was a task that was perhaps impossible to accomplish. It hurt her when two things conflicted.

Everything just hurt.

___________________________________________________________________________

Egret's ears lowered, and she looked terribly worried, "Shebla, I don't know. I can feel his energy, but I can't find the source of it, even though we both know he's still in that cave." She began pacing back and forth, every bit a distraught mother, "Oh, dear, we should have never let him follow those Ancient Spirits, what did they do to my son?" She looked on the verge of tears, before she stumbled on her paws and stopped, breathing heavily, "You said they came out of statues and there was some sort of seal?" She asked, though she didn't wait for an answer. She seemed to calm down, "No, the seal was meant to break when he arrived there. They set it to work that way, he must still be alive, though what they did, I can't be sure."

She raised her head, snapping back to her regular calm, "The only way that seal could have gotten there, and those spirits sealed into statues, was if the spirits or someone else; it would have to have been done when they were mortals, carved them. That means that those spirits must have deliberately made it so that when they died, they went into those statues instead of passing into the world of spirits. Most spirits wouldn't deny themselves the luxury of leaving the mortal world, unless they were either banished, or had something of grave importance that would be so great that they would decide to delay in coming here." Her tail flicked wildly, "They must have given some indication, Shebla, of what they were doing." She turned to her, "Did they say anything about who they were, or why they were sealed away, before they touched my son?"

Before she could answer, a great thumping came from the white mists, and an enormous cat-like creature with spots like a leopard's, and two long, ivory sabers jutting from his upper jaw, emerged. His pale green eyes gave him away as the saber-toothed cat spirit that had been leading Ammon to the cave. Eget stared at him, stunned, before backing away, "Who are you, what are you doing here, what have you done to my son?!" She demanded, despite her fear. The saber-toothed cat regarded her calmly, and there was no hostility about him. This was despite the fact that he had been one of the spirits to touch Ammon not to long ago.

"He is alive, and unharmed, I have come to put your worries at ease, nothing more." The ancient spirit said, his voice a gentle sound, not matching the fierceness of his appearance. The spirit's right ear flicked, and he looked at Shebla, "You hold the key to his spirit, and someday, you will see him again, although now he wields the power to ward away the eyes of younger spirits. The next time you meet, it will be when you both walk as physical beings." A soft growl came from the spirit's throat, "Beware, though, for he will be much changed by the great burden he now carries, and you will have to search very deep, to find the part of him you know." With this, the ancient spirit turned and vanished into the mist.

Egret, staring after the spirit, her jaw agape, turned to look at Shebla, "Shebla...what did that spirit mean by a 'great burden?'"

Var had been sitting at the entrance to the cave. He looked back, hearing Kyra sobbing and whispering. He padded back to her, frowning as he gave her a soft lick on the cheek. "What's wrong?" he asked, sitting down next to her. He knew it was something bad. He suspected some form of nightmare, especially now that they were so close. And he knew that if Dalmaa was going to get to any of them, he'd try to get to Kyra first. Var could not stand to see Kyra sad. This was his theory, anyway. He glanced up at the symbol on the wall and then back at Kyra again.

Shebla was dazed, trying desperately to find the words that fit. She looked at Egret. "One of the spirits declared him the leader of the Xi." She said. She looked around, gazing back at the camp. "No... no... no..." she said under her breath. She had to search Ammon again. She had poured her heart and soul into Ammon before, and now, she would have to do so again. But she would have to do so even harder. She looked back at Egret.

"If anyone has a burden here, it is me... I am the only one with the ability to change Ammon in any way... Ammon is close to my heart, and I care about him so much. But his ability to rebuild those walls, to fall further away, exhausts me."

Egret flicked her tail, "Shebla, my son is perhaps the most stubborn lion one could ever afford to meet. Change is not in his nature, and yet he is being forced to transform completely into something that I feel is entirely different from what he knows." She looked into the mist where the ancient spirit had vanished, "My son, the leader of anything, surprises even me, for Ammon never considered himself any sort of leader, nor the kind to work alongside others. However, if he has been declared a leader by spirits powerful enough that as mortals they could seal themselves away, and then give him strange powers without some sort of special event taking place, then he will have no choice. Ammon does, however, have a strong sense of good deep inside his heart that he tries to hide behind a veil of indifference."

Egret's ears twitched, as she continued to stare into the mist, "That sense of good in his heart, and the drive he has to achieve his goals, may be the reason he was chosen. Even if he may do things others understand, it is all according to his beliefs, which he invented for himself, because no one else was present when he was a cub to teach him. He might just be the right leader, if he has no way of objecting to that responsibility. His bearing is like that of a warrior, but he has wisdom and experience, as well." Her tail flicked, "I suppose neither of us have a choice."

______________________________________________________

Kyra looked up at Var, "Dalmaa came to me in a dream, and told me about the beginning... I don't think he was lying..." She lowered her head to touch her cheek to the cold stone again, closing her eyes tightly, as though it were agony to bear such a thing, "Var, Protheus isn't the only spirit that helped shape the world. Dalmaa was one of them, and the reason he created sin, was because he was betrayed." She clenched her teeth, "Even worse, he's made me care; I don't even think Dalmaa knows what he's doing, anymore." She felt her heart sink, "I won't abandon retrieving the Stone, but now...I don't know what Dalmaa intended."

Var gave a comforting look to Kyra and gave her a lick to the ear. "Well, Dalmaa may have told you all of this to turn us against Protheus, to turn Protheus against us for knowing. But this is... strange. I'm sure things will be revealed when we find the Stone..."

"Indeed" said Saber, who was now awake. The male sat up and looked at them. "Did Dalmaa tell you about the rest Protheus gave him? When Dalmaa came down in the form of a mortal to experience the very evils he had laid to the earth for himself?"

_________________________________________

Shebla looked back. "I suppose so" she said. "We can't really argue with spirits that old and that powerful. I want the best for Ammon. I suppose this is it, isn't it?" She simply kept staring over, hoping Ammon would somehow come out. She wished she could speak to him, have him hear her. She wanted to be able to be seen, to heard. She wanted to meet with him again, and as soon as possible. It seemed like he was just so far away.

Kyra's ears lowered, "He didn't elaborate much on that, except that he said he did face what he created. I don't know if he traumatized himself, I can't make much sense anymore of what he's trying to do. I told him that regardless of how I felt towards him, I would go after the Stone and help retrieve it. I meant what I said, and I told him that his argument with Protheus has hurt countless lives. He got very offended, very quickly, but he should understand that I'm not going to watch people I care about suffer. I don't know what his plans lead to, except that he's chosen the worst candidates for everything."

__________________________________________________________

Egret slowly nodded, "We will just have to wait and see what will happen, Shebla. We will bide our time until whatever is in Sunset Pride draws him back to where you are. I have a sense, though, that something like this could very well be perhaps around the same magnitude as the problems Dalmaa has been causing."

She flicked her tail, "The sun should be rising, soon. I will leave you to rest peacefully, for now."

With this, the dream faded out.

Saber nodded. "Dalmaa showed the world that ever dark thing is conquerable. He survived rabies, famine, heat, coldness, he nearly drowned, he was beaten mercilessly, his family was murdered, his home was destroyed by a flood, he fought countless foes. He did this against Protheus, so defiantly. The only thing that killed him... was when he killed himself..."

Shebla woke up, sighing. She hoped by 'magnitude', that Egret didn't mean so in evil. She knew nobody could be as evil as Dalmaa, for he invented sin. Though nobody knew if that was true, other than Kyra of course. It was only a myth that Dalmaa was responsible for sin, though most mortals positioned him as the highest of all sinful spirits. Shebla got up and moved out to the rest of the camp, simply wondering.

PostSubject: Re: The Pride Days (IC): Hurt   The Pride Days (IC): Hurt - Page 29 EmptyFri May 02, 2014 10:53 pm

Kyra's ears lowered, "I have been taught by my father that the ultimate sin is to kill oneself, however, he also told me, that as mere mortals, that we have no right to judge others for what they do. He told me that we are all sinners, and deserve to be punished for it." Her tail flicked, as she reflected back on some distant memory, "He told me that the only way to be free of the burden you carry from your sin, is to be forgiven for it. He told me it was not right to hold onto anger, and keep a grudge, that to hold someone accountable was to judge them, and thus place a burden upon our own shoulders." Her ears lowered even more, her eyes tearing up, because she knew her father had many flaws, even though what he said made complete sense, "He told me the most painful, excruciating thing was to find the strength to forgive someone, and the most painful thing for the one who committed the crime, was having the courage to ask for it."

She shut her eyes tightly, "We live in a world where we keep getting hurt, and it doesn't matter how good we try to be, because it's just the world we live in. We live in a world where no matter how much time passes, we can't forget who hurt us, or find the strength to let go of our anger. We can't forget the injustices that were done to us, or how we want to punish those that harmed us. We want to hurt them the way they hurt us, and it just turns into a cycle of pain and misery. Even after we take our revenge, we don't take pleasure in it, because we still keep holding onto that anger, and we know that even if we let it go, we'll always have to carry the weight that we couldn't tell that individual how much we're sorry for punishing them."

Her eyes opened, "I have to hold others accountable for their actions, and tell myself that it's not wrong, that bad creatures need to be punished. They should, because sin is wrong, but what's the right course of action? If they never learn a lesson, if they're never punished for what they did, they'll keep doing it, but to punish them means hurting them. It's not in my nature to hurt others, even if I might act fierce and put on a tough face. I don't want to hurt them, I want to heal that pain, because I know in my heart that's what I'm meant to do."

There came a small splash from outside the cave, and a pair of red eyes appeared, "You do have a forgiving heart, Blue Eyes, though what prompted you to say what you just did, I'm not sure, as I just arrived here." Aina said, her voice unusually gentle and quiet. "You'd even show kindness to someone that threatened to kill you. Such a good spirit, I envy that, but I can see that you're not feeling well." She swished her tail in the water, creating ripples. "For whatever reason you're punishing someone, remember, if the task was given to you by someone else, then it's not you taking revenge, if that is any consolation at all."

Kyra's head shot up, and she looked at the water, "Wha...? How do you keep finding us?" She asked, snapped out of her sorrow by the small crocodile's arrival.

There came a small cackle of sorts, "Well, I did say crocodiles have a good sense of smell, now didn't I?" There was something vaguely affectionate about the words, as though Aina were warming up to the group, somewhat, even though she had just rudely interrupted them.

As dawn approached, the group gathered themselves and began moving out of the camp and down a strip of lands that was damp and muddy, but not underwater. They were able to walk safely, moving along a place stricken with bones.

"This is where the final battle between Ridge Pride and River Pride took place... The bodies from the battle still lie scattered, if you look closely" said Saber, pointing at bones grown under the soil. He eyed a specific batch of bones in a large gully, a gulch that sunk in the ground. By the look on his face it was obvious that they were the bones of his old body. Taru and Saber both exchanged an awkward glance and moved on, Saber with a sigh.

Scar walked a bit beside Var and Kyra, and looked at them a bit curiously. "Have either of you been here before?"

Var spoke. "I have, but long before the battle. I don't think Kyra has, she's spent her life in Ethiopia."
