Roleplay Idea Thread

Well, it is a rough draft. I'm still working on it.

Wow, nearly two days without a single comment or approval or whatever on my character sheet for the Apparation. Not even Lieo has found something wrong with it and commented on it yet.

Things must've changed while I was absent.

It's the Nargles.

I have no interest in looking over that RP.

Ghost RP's are difficult to pull off and must be handled properly if it's to be even remotely interesting. OsakaSun, as he is known as on the Sporum, is very specialized in dark, abstract, and hallucinogenic themes, namely psychological stuff. Ghosts, mixed in with those themes, are an excellent combination.

That aside, both of the OPs weren't impressive. It doesn't feel dark, it doesn't feel like I'm reading a horror book or excerpt. Maybe a tad gothic, but about as gothic as the Hunchback of Notre Dam Disney movie. The OP for the OOC is like, "Hey, welcome to Welton. By the way, a young girl was slaughtered." The OP is just telling me what's happening, and the screaming man doesn't sound scared, more like insane and annoying. Like I said, I'm being told. There's no picture being painted.

The OP for the IC is even more ridiculous as there's no build up to any ghost sitings, and he just ups and says "hey look, ghosts". That's a mood killer. There's also a "we got a call" scene, which is factually inaccurate. The phone wasn't invented during that time (and even if it was, some woman isn't going to possess one). It was just an idea that was poorly executed.

I can see your point, fair enough. I dont often do ghost RPs, so I'm try to extend my spectrum. I also took your advice, and I made my character obese to see how that would play out.

That wasn't so much as advice as it was a suggestion. It just opens up usually unexplored character development.

First of all, the man in the OP of the IC was in fact insane. I intended for him to be like that, obviously you must have thought differently.

And unless there's something I missed or forgot, I don't even remember any phone scenes. If you didn't already know, scary RPs are difficult to pull off. In fact, I haven't even gotten started with any good stuff, just a few parlor tricks compared to what I'm about to pull off along with a different writing style I've been practicing for like two months now. You also need to seriously start considering that people have the ability to start things. It's not like I've done a horror RP before, so obviously I'm not the best. You act like you expect us to act like some amazing writers when we are starting things out, so please, consider that.

Well, I hate to admit it, but I kind of agree with Lieo on a lot of points. I joined the RP so that I could work on realistic portrayal of fear, anxiety, and paranoia. You also said in the OP that the haunting would be subtle at first, but as soon as the RP began, half the town was in the asylum, and evil girls with claws and knives were running around. You started the haunting a bit too strong, and it's to the point where my character has become irritated, as well as frightened, because everything is happening at once, and my characters behave depending on how I feel, to a certain degree, and depending on the RP. The kind of stuff happening doesn't seem very much like parlor tricks.

Grox, I know in the OP you said you wanted to control the ghost, but I think it would be a good idea if you let the RPers choose when the ghost does little haunting things, until it actually manifests as a being. It'll be easier for people to portray things if we have that sort of freedom. I personally want to try my own hand at it, because I need to learn how.

Yes, you're right on several points and I know I'm not that good at portraying horror, note that I'm working on it.

I guess freedom wouldn't hurt, little hauntings and things are okay.

I did say that the beginning was going to be subtle, I thought I did okay with that. I said the haunting would be subtle, but not the town being pulled into the asylum. But very well.

Well, I have a certain idea of what subtle forms of haunting would be. Things like hearing footsteps, maybe a cool breeze brushing past, or even random tiny objects winding up in places where they weren't originally, although nobody saw how they got there. There's also the feeling of being watched by something, but you can't tell what it is.

Also, from these crazy stories that happened when I was little that would have nice effect, is things messing with your hair, or catching colds whenever you walk into a particularly bad place, but since it's not confined to a single room, that probably wouldn't work.

Ahhhh, that's a better version of subtle than I had portrayed, LOL. Well perhaps this haunting could just be to get the story started then, I'll hold back on hauntings for a while and the children will disappear.

Those are good ideas, we/you/I should do that as well.

Well, I am a fan of horror and ghost stories, to a certain degree.

Oh, as am I. I personally love Creepypastas, I read their wiki all the time.

The intro was very "in your face".

Well that insanity was played out well over the top, in case you were wondering. People who are genuinely insane usually don't scream everything they say most of the time.

Wonderful. Can't wait... just try not to disappoint, especially since you're gloating the way you are now. I'm a little curious why you didn't implement this amazing writing style in The Apparition.

I don't know, but that "excuse me" seemed like a pretty negative indicator.

you're being just as I was. Normally I wouldn't have even paid mind to it, but the italics on "that" was pretty obvious of the meaning of that phrase.

I dont see what doing this solves. Grox, just test your new writing style, and show Lieo that you are getting better and be done with it.

To be honest, half the things Lieo says can be helpful if looked at with the right perspective. As difficult as that can be sometimes, try not to take everything as if it's a personal attack. I did that and he kicked my CENSORED in the argument that ensued.

Look at it, think about it, say thanks, or thanks but no thanks, and continue on your merry way.
